  	1892, Friday April 15, The Almonte Gazette front page Very Sudden Death Last Monday morning at half-past eight, while Mr Gilbert Cannon was conversing with Mr Wm Baird in the latter's residence, Mr Baird , who had been sitting up, made an effort to get into bed, and while doing so fell to the floor and expired immediately. He had been troubled with heart disease for some time, and it was feared that the thread of life in his case might be broken at any time; but few thought he would be cut off with such terrible suddenness, Mr Baird had borne beyond life's allotted span, and his continued sickness had greatly weakened him. He was of a quiet disposition, a great reader, and was possessed of a valuable fund of knowledge; and those who were intimate with him say that, although of a somewhat blunt exterior, he was a genial conversationalist and a warm-hearted friend. His lengthy connection with the woolen mill here made him a familiar figure on our streets up to the commencement of his illness; and many expressions of regret at his sudden removal are heard. Mrs Baird has the sympathy of a host of friends in her bereavement. The funeral take place this (Thursday) afternoon, to the eighth line cemetery.
