  	Carol Bennett in the Lanark Society Settlers notes a John Baird, 53 for which she could find no further trace. She suggests that he was travelling out to join a family who had come earlier. I believe that John travelled with the immigrants of the society and after surveying conditions and opportunities in the new colony, returned to Scotland and his family. He later returned with plans to establish mills in Ramsay township.

  	John Baird came to the Bennie's Corners district in 1829 and he built the mill which today serves as the Tait McKenzie Memorial museum, "The Mill of Kintail". He had a wife and four children who joined him as at a later date, the children being William, Isabella, John and Jean Baird.
