- Ethan Samuel Nelson.
Ethan Samuel Nelson, second son of Samuel and Lucy Ambrose Richardson Nelson, late of Wheelock, was born at the home in that town, Sept. 3, 1839, and died here April 4th. from the effect of an accident which caused a fracture of the hip, although he had been in poor health for some years. He was a brother ot the late B.M.K. Nelson, so well known in business circles here, and Mrs. Amy Neison Dow, who died a few years ago here. He first married Miss Emily Taft of Sutton, who died leaving two sons and a daughter: Charles, who died a few years ago here; Fred now in business here, and Miss Mabel of the Monitor office. His second wife, Miss Marian Miller, of Glover survives him. He held several town offices; was overseer of the poor seven years and lister several times.
His death removes one of our long-time citizens and also the last of the immediate family, who were such prominent factors in business circles. After the death of his mother in Wheelock his father came to reside here and died at the home of his son, B. M. R. Jonathan Dow, also a well-known business man, formerly of Wheelock, late of Chicago, also died at that home, as did his widow, Amy (Nelson). The two homes witnessed many family gatherings and much pleasant intercourse. The funeral was held at his late home on Saturday, April 6th, Rev, W. Warner of the Congregational church, of which he was a constant attendant, officiating pastor. Interment by the remains of his late wife in Hillside cemetery.
He is also survived by a nephew, S. B. Nelson, of this place, and a niece, Mrs. George H. Davis of South Pasadena, Cal.
