Bryce. On Saturday, 5th Nov., Mr. James Bryce, Scotch Line, aged 88 years. Deceased came from Scotland in 1815 when 16 years of age, and settled on the Scotch Line. Being under age he was not entitled to free land grant, but his tall stature induced the Government agent to make him an exception, and he got his land. This was at the head of the Scotch Line, where he lived for sixty-eight years. Deceased never married, and for the last twenty two years his niece, [Margaret Bryce] Mrs. George Hossie, took charge of him, and treated the old man with much kindness, making her fireside a pleasant one for her uncle, who had no other friends in Canada. Mr. Bryce originally belonged to the Cameronian branch of the Presbyterian church, but there being no church of that body here he joined himself with Knox Church congregation in Perth.
