- Death of John Dunlop
Mr. John Dunlop, a well-known old Scotch farmer who has occupied several farms in the Red Deer and Lacombe districts, passed to his rest on Thursday after two weeks' illness, at the age of practically eighty years. His funeral took place Saturday from Mr. Darragh's farm, which has been his home for a number of years, at Jackfish Lake, halfway between Blackfalds and Lacombe, and he was buried beside Mrs. Dunlop, who died here in 1919.
Mr. Dunlop was born in Drumbuie, Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1854 and was married to Mrs. Dunlop, who was a native of the Island of Islay. They farmed in Scotland most of their days, but came out to Canada in 1912 for better opportunities for the sons and sons-in-law, settling near Red Deer, in Waskasoo. He was on two farms in Waskasoo, except during the war years, when they were west of Blackfalds between 1912 and 1921, 5 years in all. They have since been in the Lacombe district. Mr. Dunlop brought out five Clyde horses from Scotland, and in 1913 sold a team to the Lethbridge Experimental Farm for $1100. He and Mr. Darragh were stock exhibitors at both the Red Deer and Lacombe fairs.
The family consists of his son John at Granum; his five daughters--Mrs. James Darragh, Lacombe; Mrs. Arch. McCorkindale, Glasgow, Scotland; Mrs. Jas. Dey, Calgary; Mrs. Wm. McKenzie, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; and Miss Mary Dunlop, Lacombe. One son died in 1911.
