- David was born in Calton, Scotland. Calton is a district in the city of Glasgow. He was the son of William McQuatt and Jane McHaffie. On April 29,1864, in the Dalhousie area of Lanark County, he was married to Jane Duncan, daughter of James Duncan and Jane Purdon. David and Jane had five children; William, at Sintaluta, Saskatchewan,; James, Heron's Mills; John, Lanark; Jane (Mrs. John White), Dalhousie; and Janet (Mrs. Israel Blakely), Sintaluta, Saskatchewan. After Jane's death in 1873,David was married again on Jan.13,1874 to Janet Lorimer, daughter of Joseph Lorimer and Janet Kerr. They had no children. David married a 3rd time on Oct.13,1880, to Sarah Bain, daughter of James and Jane Bain. David and Sarah had 5 children; Margaret (Mrs. Fleetwood Miller), McLaren's Depot; David, Almina, Maude (Mrs. John Craig), and Carrie.

In Dalhousie, Tuesday, April 23rd, David McQuatt Sr., aged 69 years and 4 mos. A native of Calton District of Glasgow, Scotland, he was born in 1837. In 1842, he came with his parents to Canada, settling on the 10th line of Dalhousie. Two brothers and two sisters are still living; William, in Dalhousie; Mrs. Geo. Pepper, Swan Lake, Man,; Duncan, in Winnipeg, and Mrs. James Lamont, Smiths Falls. Mr. McQuatt was married three time; the first was about 44 years ago to Jane Duncan, who died ten years later. Jane Lorimer was his wife for about eight years and finally Sarah Bain, who survives him. Five children were born of the first marriage; William, at Sintaluta, Sask,; James, Heron's Mills; John, Lanark; Mrs. John White, Dalhousie; and Mrs. Israel Blakely, Sintaluta. There were no children by the second wife and five by the third; Mrs. Fleet Miller, McLaren's Depot; David, Almina, Maude, and Carrie, at home. Burial in Crawford's cemetery.
