- Violet Myrtle Somerville
Former long-time resident of Chilliwack, Mrs. Violet Myrtle Somerville, 81, died in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon, B.C. on Aug.31, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service was held on Sept. 3, in the Pleasant Valley Memorial Chapel, Vernon, with Rev. E. Fehr and REv. Ray P. Wilson officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Curry Halpennyt, Ron Bradley, Archie Somerville, Wilf Scott, Bob Clerke and Bob Pearson. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Byrne, Martin Knorring, Bill Baxter, Don Somerville and R.C. Proctor.
Mrs Somerville was born July 14, 1899 in Brandon, Man. and came to Chilliwack with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Thomas P. Halpenny in 1906. She continued to live here until her marriage in 1939 to B.F. (Mike) Somerville.
Following several short-term moves to other places in BC, she returned to reside in Chilliwack for a number of years before moving to Vernon in 1953. While a resident of Chilliwack, Mrs. Somerville was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, B.F. Somerville of Vernon; three sisters, Lena (Mrs. Thomas) Byrne of Vancouver, Mary (Mrs. Martin) Knorring and Ruth (Mrs. Byron Bradley, both of Chilliwack; a brother, T. Curry Halpenny of Chilliwack and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Ida Halpenny in 1959 and by her parents mr. and Mrs T.P. Halpeny in 1943 and 1952, respectively.
