  	Robert Joynt was the first Joynt to settle in South Elmsley Township in Leeds County, Ontario, Canada. He bought a farm from James Wood in 1889 on the Rideau west of Rideau Ferry. Robert was later a tenant on the Thomas Smith farm on the Ferry Road by 1891. He sold the waterfront back to the Wood Family and bought the Smith farm in 1902. He subsequently gave this farm to his son, Edward W. Joynt, a future Reeve of South Elmsley. (Source : South Elmsley in The Making 1783 - 1983 by James R. Kennedy) -------------------------------- Obituary - The Ottawa Citizen - Jul.17,1913 An Aged Pioneer of Rideau Falls Dies at Rideau Ferry : (Smiths Falls newspaper, issue of July 15) - Another of the pioneers of this part of Canada died at his home near Rideau Ferry last evening in the person of Mr. Robert Joynt. He was born in Ireland 81 years ago, and in the early days came to Canada and settled in the part of the country near where he died. He became one of the prosperous and most highly esteemed farmers in the township of South Elmsley. He took a paralytic stroke some time ago, and has never since been well. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters. The funeral took place to Rideau Ferry this morning at 10 o'clock.
