Merritt was born in Alpena on February 13, 1933 to the late Merritt and Naomi (Piper) Barton. He was engaged in farming and enjoyed playing cards, Tiger baseball, John Deere tractors and animals. Surviving are 5 siblings, Doris Mousseau of Clarkston, Marilyn (Dave) MacGillis of Lachine, Calvin (Margaret) Barton of Lachine, Phyllis (Dave) Coroapolis of Pennsylvania, Daryl (Penny) Barton of Lachine; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Barton was preceded in death by a niece, Susan Yachick.
