His father was a private in the First Regiment of Life Guards. George inherited 100 acres of land through a grant to his father in Plympton, Lambton, Upper Canada. George was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1843, followed by Margaret in 1844. In 1846 they sold their land in Plympton and left Canada with a group of Scottish members of the church and went to Illinois. Margaret gave birth in their wagon as they were crossing the Flox River in Illinois heading for Nauvoo. Andrew Corry was born on 28 April 1846 in a wagon in the middle of the river. The family moved to Winter Quarters later in 1846 where his parents died. They left Winter Quarters on 17 June 1847 and crossed the plains to Utah arrived on 29 Sept 1847. They were in the Archibald Gardner Company. George was 39 years old and Margaret was 31. The family settled in Provo in 1849-1850 where they lived until 1853. They were called to settle in Cedar City, Iron County where three more of their children were born. They lived in Cedar City until they died.
