Horses Struck by Lightening |
- Mr. James Ashby of Fallbrook lost a fine team of Bay horses last week by lightning, either on Monday night or Tuesday morning. The team had been used on Monday and then turned out on pasture. They were in the babit of coming to the barn for water and by the middle of the week, when they failed to put in an appearance a search was made but they could not be found. Thinking that they possibly had strayed to a neighboring farm, Mr. Ashby made inquiries, but they had not been seen. A further search on Saturday found them lying dead beneath a pine tree which was badly shattered by a lightning bold. The bodies of the team were both marked by the electricity, one of them severely.

Altar Ashby Thompson
Ashby-Thompson - A most interesting event took place on Wednesday afternoon Dec 30th at the home of Mrs. John R Thompson, Drummond, when her youngest daughter, Bessie Joan was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Mr. James Ashby of Playfair, son of the late William Ashby of Fallbrook. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A.H. Scott, Perth. The bride, who was given away by her brother, was very prettily attired in cream serge rimmed with shadow lace and swans down. At the conclusion of the ceremony and after congratulations, the guests sat down to a sumptuous repast. In the evening, the bridal party drove to the groom's home at Playfair where a reception was held, and a most enjoyable time was spent by all. The many gifts received testify to the esteem of bride and groom. All join in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Ashby a long and happy married life.
