"Cowie. The death occurred at his home on the Scotch Line Sunday morning at ten o'clock of Mr. Wm. Cowie in his 79th year. Deceased had been troubled with his heart for some time, the ultimate cause of his demise. He was a son of the late Robert Cowie of Christorphon, Scotland and Jane Adams of Utica, N. Y. He was born at Utica, N. Y., on the 25th of December, 1840, and came to this country with his parents when a boy. Settling on the Scotch Line at the age of 22 years on the farm where he died, he married Margaret Kemp of Ramsay, who predeceased him 32 years, leaving a family of five sons and two daughters, Jessie died two years later. They are: Robert of Winnipeg; James of Balderson; William of Juanita, Sask.; Frank of Morden, Sask.; Isaac of Ottawa, and Mrs. Wm. Rea of Lethbridge, Alta. Deceased later married Catharine MacKenzie of Halifax, N. S., who survives with two sons and one daughter: Garvilla at home, Nelson of Alberta, and Walter who was lost on the Llandovery Castle hospital ship. Deceased had farmed on the Scotch Line for over 50 years. The funeral took place on Tuesday at 2:30 o'clock to the old Presbyterian cemetery."
