Laura E. Hess, 88, Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Davenport. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Ind. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on June 1, 1912, Ontario, Canada. She was a daugher of William and Louise Mae (Young) Miller. she married Sylvester Hess in 1937 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1967.
Mrs. Hess previously was employed as a Nurses Aide for Homemaker Services in Davenport. She retired in 1972. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Davenport Women's Club and had served as secretary for the Davenport Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyted working crossword puzzles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Padgett, Evansville, Ind., sons David Hess, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, George W. Hess,Davenport, and Dr Jerry Hess, Bettendorf.; eight grandchildren' and three great grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy.
