Son of the late Robert Sergeant, he was among the first to be born in the Township of North Sherbrooke. He married Janet Wilson, also of North Sherbrooke, who died sixteen years ago. They had a family of five sons and four daughters; Ellen (Mrs. John Truelove), deceased; Robert, of Brooke; John, of McDonald's Corners; Sophia (Mrs. J. Buchanan), deceased; Mrs. Thomas Briggs, Powasson; David, on the homestead; William, of Westport; and Mrs. T. K. Purdon, of Powasson. One boy died in infancy. One brother still survives. Burial in Crawford's Cemetery. (Brother's name is Joseph Sergeant, of Alberta)
