John Munro was the eldest son of Peter Munro. He lived on what was later known as the Alex Stewart farm, front part of West half of Lot 6 C 3 Bathurst (approximately 50 acres). The deed from John Gray is dated 3 November 1854, registered 17 Dec 1855, and sold 22 September 1860 to Thomas Miller for $1200, double the price he paid in 1854. His property adjoined the 63 acre farm on which Peter Munro Sr. lived after moving from Dalhousie Twp.
In 1860, John Munro (at age 56) moved, with 3 daughters, to Bruce Cty, ON to continue farming. It appears that an older brother, Neil, had moved to Bruce County in 1856 with his family, coming directly from Argyleshire, Scotland.
Shortly after the Am. Civil War (1861-64) he moved again, with his remaining sons (Thomas, John,William) to Minnesota, where Peter already resided, and continued to farm. Descendants (1934) were living in Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota.
John Munro returned to Paisley ON, in Bruce Co in later years. He died, age 71, at the home of his daughter Rose Ann in Underwood, ON and the body was returned to Perth with by sons-in-law George McKay and Thomas Hopper for burial.
In the 1841 Census he is located on Bathurst C3 L7W and arrived from Scotland in 1820, Presbyterian, two born in Scotland and 5 born in Canada. [6, 7]
