Gillespie, 84, died on Sunday, March 12, 2006, at his son's home in Albuquerque, N.M. He was born in Summit Hill, on December 2, 1921. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor Gillespie; son, Robert W. Gillespie, of Albuquerque, and his wife, Cookie, their two children, Logan and Jackie; and son, Donald Gillespie, of Sewickley, and his two daughters, Rebecca and Erin. Bob was a veteran of the second World War and served in Germany. He worked for the Centre Daily Times for 24 years, from 1960 until he retired in 1984. He has been a member and past president of The Nittany Knights Barbershop Chorus for 34 years. Until this past year, he was an active golfer and missed shooting age by only two strokes on his 80th birthday. A memorial service was held in Albuquerque, on Tuesday, March 14, 2006.
