Hi Anne,
This is exciting news! I have done a lot of the down generational research on the Poole family and have fairly complete records. I can share if you need info. It would be good to compare finding though. The Whyte family I know very little about. It has always intrigued me that my Grandmother's second name was Whyte and researching that family history has been on my to do list. What do you know of their location etc. in Wexford, when did they arrive, where did they settle etc..
I had identified a Daniel Whyte as another brother of Thomas but had not found John. I would be very interested in learning more about them and their descendants. Who were their parents? What other siblings were there in the family? How well did they know the Poole family in Wexford. I'm trying to piece together a generation or two there.
As you can see I am living in Calgary Alberta but I spent most of my life in Lanark County. Where are you located? How extensive is your research? How can we best share? I use Legacy as my database.......
Looking forward to getting to know you. What is our relationship? Oh the questions!!!!

to me
Hi Diane:
I live in Oakville, Ontario. I have a farm in Bruce County ( where it appears I left my Whyte binder).
I think that my information that John Whyte came from Wexford was based on research of one of Thomas's descendants. ( Of course I can't remember her name because it's in my binder)
John Whyte married Margaret Webster in 1821 in the town of Perth, Drummond, Lanark ( no date in register)
I spent a morning at the Anglican Church archives in Ottawa about 14 years ago where I had one of my best discoveries. I found the baptism of Margaret Webster in Perth on 15 Oct 1858. It stated that she was born 20 August 1794 in Enniscorthy, Wexford and that her parents were Joshua Webster and Priscilla Houghton. I knew that I had seen those names in the IGI. The Websters were Quakers in Ireland ( but not it seems in Canada). Margaret Webster had at least three siblings in Lanark that I've found. Israel, Ann married to a Richard Ennis and Lucy married to Abel Martin.
Unfortunately, I do not have much background information on John. If I'm remembering correctly both John and Thomas got land in 1816.
I use family tree maker. I can send you a descendant report that includes what I have for both John and Thomas. I haven't worked on this family in a while, but I'd be happy to work with you.
So I am Anne Goeden, born 1961 dau of David Goeden son of Jennie Chambers dau of Margaret Webster Whyte dau of John Whyte, son of John Whyte born 1790
My ancestor John Whyte junior born 1823 left Lanark about 1851 and moved to Woodstock area in Oxford County. He was married to Elizabeth McFarlane and several of her siblings also made the move from Lanark to Oxford.
I'm very excited to meet a new cousin. Once you tell me how many generations down you are from Thomas we can figure it out exactly. If Thomas is also your ggg grandfather then we would be fourth cousins.
So let me know what kind of report you want me to send you.
Cousin Anne

Hi Diane:
Actually I think that we are fifth cousins. I was kind of tired the other night when I was trying to calculate it. We share the same gggg grandparents Senior Whyte and Wife. ( Maybe we can get them some names)
So I'm going to send you a descendant report. I'm probably going to my farm on the weekend so if you have any questions about my sources maybe we can wait until I retrieve my binder.
Also this week, I also found a fourth cousin on ancestry. Wendy Price. She is a descendant of Olivia Ann Whyte born 1861 ( daug of Joshua, son of John) I think that she is also matching you.
Are you in gedmatch? I have my father's dna in gedmatch . His kit number is T431187. My kit number is T127179 and my cousin's Linda June Spidell is A579496
I like to use gedmatch as well as ancestry because you can put in a lower threshold if you think that you are related to someone. I think that ancestry cuts off at 7 cM.

Wonderful! I did a hasty input of you line and came up with the four once removed. I spent all day yesterday checking my info and adding some more. I will go over your and compare. I know the families and the area of eastern Ontario as I was born and lived near Perth before marrying and moving to Almonte. Lanark County is home territory for me. Are you on facebook. Check for dianeduncan01 if you are.
Yes on gedmatch, originally tested at Family tree dna shared to my heritage. Just sent off sample to living dna in the Hope's it will help with the British isle searching.
Really interested in finding out if the Whytes and Pooles were neighbors in Wexford. Have to go back to my meeting note files. The Pooles were not Palentine as I was told but Quakers.
I'll be back to you shortly!

I worked through your line tonight and i will do more tomorrow. My program (Legacy) says that your Dad was a fourth cousin and you are a fourth cousin once removed! I'll check it against some of the charts tomorrow but I'm pretty sure its right.
I will also look up my numbers in the various DNA sites and send them to you.
The unknown Whyte is my 4th great grandfather. There must also be other Whytes as I found Daniel living with Thomas and Ann in the 1861 census. Usually the whole family came but if some married before they may have come another family. Daniel was born about 1779 so there is a 10 year gap to John the next son. I'll do some searching on that tomorrow.
Time for bed. We definitely are cousins!!!!!
