  	NOTES BY RALPH A. PUGH: Harry was almost certainly born in Highfield, York County, Ontario, where his parents lived for many years. He was raised in that area and appears to have remained there continuously until the age of 22; the 1901 census (taken in the spring) has him in the household of his parents, where his profession is given as "farm laborer." In late 1901 Harry moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where he operated a greenhouse and lived as a florist; his elder brother Alfred had moved there in 1898 and his younger brother Jim would join them in early 1902. But Harry apparently lived at the "Soo" for only a few years before settling as a farmer in Fordwich, Ontario, where he married Mary Agnes Baird on September 30, 1908. He and Agnes had no children. Harry was very outgoing and widely-liked. Having no children of his own, he traveled to remain in touch with his relatives in the Toronto area and beyond. His niece Marguerite (Sansom) Macdonald later stated that everyone liked "Uncle Harry." She recollected that he was quite musical and loved to sing the songs popularized by Harry Lauder. She said, though, that Harry was also known around the family as "the drinking uncle" due to his fondness for alcohol. In December 1958 Harry privately printed a seven-page genealogy titled "Family Tree of Alfred Sansom Sr. and Elizabeth Hill" (in a yellow soft cover) and distributed copies during his visits to relatives. In the summer of 1960, when I was three and "Uncle Harry" was 80 or 81 (and by then widowed), he visited his niece (my paternal grandmother) Ethel (Sansom) Pugh and the rest of her family in Alpena, Michigan. His visit is my earliest memory that I can date. He was very vigorous and cordial; I well remember how he bounced me on his knee and gave me a gentle tickling. What a kindly man; God rest and keep him.
