- Mr. John F. Ferrier
Mr John F. Ferrier, of the Scotch Line, passed away at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Jerbert J. Miller, Glen Tay, on Wednesday, April 17th where he had resided since his wife's death on November 13th, 1934. He was in his 75th year, and had lived his entire life on the Scotch Line, being a son of the late Abraham and Janet Ferrier. In 1886, on March 24th, he married Alice Poole, daughter of the late John and Alice Poole, to whom were born six sons and one daughter, who survive, viz.: Ernest in Montreal; Lloyd of the Scotch Line; Mrs Herbert Miller, of Glen Tay; Leslie, of the Northwest; Harold, manager of the Bank of Montrea at Watford; Alex of the Scotch Line and Mervyn, on the homestead, all of whom were present at the funeral with the exception of Leslie. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs T. A. Poole of Perth, and one brother, Mr. Alex. Ferrier of Renfrew. Two sisters, Mrs John Menzies, Tena Ferrier, and one brother, Malcolm Ferrier, predecease him.
Deceased was a progressive farmer and he improved his property by building an up-to-date home and barns. He bought the adjoining farm where his son Alex. is settled, then bought another farm where Lloyd is settled, while his son Leslie is settled in the Canadian West. Deceased will be greatly missed in his home, surrounding country and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church of which he was an elder.
The funeral was held on Friday afternoon, April 19th, from the home to the Scotch Line Cemetery, and was very largely attended by friends and neighbours. In the absence of his pastor, Rev. Dr. Bunyan McLeod, the services at the home and graveside were conducted by Rev. Kenneth McCaskill, of McDonald's Corners, who paid a splendid and fitting tribute to Mr. Ferrier's life as a husband and father. The body was laid to rest beside his wife's to await the resurrection morn. The pallbearers were his six nephews, viz., Messrs Norman Poole, Harold Poole, Archie James, John McLaren, Ernest Miller and Archie Allan.
Many floral tributes were received including a wreath of Easter lilies from the family; sprays from Mr and Mrs T.A. Poole, Mrs. McLaren and family, staff at the Bank of Montreal at Watford, McMillan family, Montreal, James family, Perth, the Orange Order and others.
