Mrs Wm Miller Dies In 95th Year
One of the oldest and best loved resident of the Union Hall and Clayton district passed peacefully to rest on Sept, 25th at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs Eldin Currie in the person of Mrs Wm Miller, Sr. The deceased whose maiden name as Agnes S. Baird was born in Dalhousie township and was in her ninety-fifth year. She lived there until in 1879. After the death of her husband in 1890 she lived with her son Wm J. Miller in Lanark township. The family consisted of four sons all of whom are still living with the exception of John B. who died in 1942. The deceased familiarly known as "Grandma Miller" led a very active life and was always ready to respond to any call in time of trouble. She was a faithful member of the United Church, Clayton and in her active years took her part in all church activities. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Wm J., Albert G., and James L. There are also 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral which took place on Sunday from the Scott Funeral Home to Clayton United Church was one of the largest ever held in this community. The hymns sung were two of her favourites, "Rock of Ages" and "The Lord's My Shepherd." Mr Harold Stevens sang a solo, "There Are No Disappointments in Heaven." There were many beautiful floral tributes from friends and neighbours. The pall bearers were six grandsons: Robert Miller, Charles Miller, Bert Miller, Russell, Frank Lowe and Allan Gardiner. Friends were there from Toronto, Trenton, Kingston, Williamburg, Ottawa, Shawville, Lanark, Perth and Hopetown.
