He married Isabella (Bella) Davidson McLaren 7 Apr 1874 at Bathurst Twp., Lanark Co. and his birthplace on his marriage registration was "S. Sherbrooke" and his age was recorded as 24 years. His 1901 Census at Turtle Mountain, Lisgar, Manitoba records his date of birth as 28 Dec 1852. John died age 66.
