- William Robert Bell
February 1st, 1963, marked the passing of William Robert Bell, the son of the late James Andrew Bell and his wife, Isabella Thornton. The deceased was a lifelong resident of Bathurst Township, where he was born on January 9th (sic), 1878. A member of a pioneer family, he was the third generation to farm the Bell Homestead near Harper, until blindness, the resut of a serious illness in 1942, forced his retirement.
He was married on January 1st 1913, to Barbara Elizabeth Wrathall, of Harper, who predeceased him august 18th, 1955. Left to mourn his passing is one son, William Clyde, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: Lena (Mrs Alex Keays); Mary Jane, (Minnie); James S. and John G. Bell.
The deceased rested at Young's Funeral Home, Lanark, Ont., until February 4th, when funeral services were conducted by Rev. M.C.M. Jone, in St. John's Anglican Church, Balderson. Interment was in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth.
The pallbeareres were Messrs. Walter Cameron, Cecil Popplewell, Roy Keays, Lorne Bell, John Clyne and Ernest Kerr.
Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were mr. and Mrs. A.C. Bell, North Gower; Bert Bell, North Gower; Nellie Lindsay, Kars; Ivan A. Keays, South Mountain; Eber and Elizageth Saunders, Smiths Falls; and Carl and Reba Bolton, Portland.
In addition to numerous cards and messages of sympathy, the following floral tributes wer received: The Family, The Neighbours, Cameron Family, Mrs. Fred Wilson and Family, Keays Family, Gordon and Margaret Lindsay, Clayton and Jennie Farnel, Harry and Joe Warren, Mary and Cecil Popplewell, Dr. Ernest Wrathall, and Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Parish.
