- Mattawa's Methodist Minister
The Mattawa Tribune, of August 19, gives the following sketch of a gentleman, well known at Perth, Glen Tay and Fallbrook, Rev. F.G. Robinson, a portrait also accompanying it:
" Re. Fred. G. Robinson, the present pastor of the Methodist church in town, was born in Skipton, Yorkshire, England, in A.D. 1865. After leaving high school, he spent a few years in mercantile pursuits. In 1885 he was licensed as a local preacher in connection with the Wesleyan church. The following year he went to a preparatory college for candidate for the Wesleyan ministry (British Conference) where he remained for two years. In the spring of 1886, he passed the preliminary examinations most creditably. At that time Rev. H.F. Bland, one of the most eloquent ministers of the Montreal Conference, was stationed at Perth. Hearing that Mr. Robinson was offering himself for the ministry he invitede him to come to Canada. This was looked upon as a Divine Call, and without the slightest doubt or hesitancy Mr. Robinson left the land of his fathers and entered the Montreal Conference, in which he has since remained. Since his arrival in the Dominion, Mr. Robinson has spent two years in McGill University and the Methodist Theological College, Montreal.
In 1893 Mr. Robinson marrried Miss Minnie Barber, youngest daughter of the late Robert Barber, Esq., of Glen Tay, Ont. Mrs. Robinson, who has made manyfriends among all classes in town, possesses the rare but happy qualities which so eminently fit her for the position she occupies - a Methodist Minister's wife, and on every circuit she has been a universal favorite. The Methodists of Mattawa are to be congratulated upon having Fred. G. Robinson to minister to their spiritual necessities, for his record is that of a successful minister in every place where he has been appointed.
