In Nov or Dec 1917 William Cranston Dodds travelled in the Bruce Peninsula to a funeral of Thomas Dodds, a first cousin and famous athelete. He travelled with another famous athelete of the time, Walter Know of Wellington County (son of Joan Cranston, daughter of William Cranston married to Mary Scott). They encountered stormy weather and the cutter upset, giving them both a chill. Later William Cranston Dodds contacted pleurisy from the exposure and died early in 1918.
