- Affleck - (from the Lanark Era)
There passed away in Middleville on Sunday, January 11th, after a brief illness, June Rodger, wife of Mr. Samuel Affleck. In her 75th year. Since the dawning of the New Year the Sands of Time had for her been sinking fast though there was little to indicate that the last hour was so fast approaching. for many years failing helath had greatly reduced her physical powers, but always she bore the burden of her frailty with patience and cheerfulness, using still the moisture of strength that remained from day to day in the little tasks that were still within reach, Always a great lover of home she was a good wife and mother, and in the 52 years of her married life she bore the round of work that fell to her lot, bravely and well, and always the watchwords, of her daily life were industry, thrift and unselfish service.
Born at Rosetta, the fourth daughter of the late Henry Rodger and his wife, Jessie Stead, she spent all her lifetime in that vicinity, her married life being lived in Middleville, with the exception of a few years in Hopetown.
Sisters and brothers surviving are: Mrs. Janet Baird of Lanark Village; Mrs Isabella Mather, Mrs Mary Affleck and Mr. James H. Rodger of Middleville and Robert H. Rodger of Rossetta. Besides her husband there are two daughters and three sons who mourn her loss, namely Jessie May at home; Mrs. Wm. Liddle of Middleville; Fred, of Edmonton; Harry of Sinclair, Man.; Clement, at home.
The funeral service took place on Tuesday in the Baptist Church, of which she was a faithful member, and was conducted by Rev. Mr. McNab, pastor of the United Church. Acting as pallbearers were Messrs. Harry Somerville, John Rodger, Harry J. Rodger, Harry Mather, Chas. Affleck and Ralph Affleck
