  Married: Menzies-McIlquham n Wednesday, June 30, at 8 o'clock pm, an intersting ceremony took place at the residence of Mr Walter McIlquham, sr., 11th con. Drummond, by which two of the oldest and most respected families of Lanark county were united. The principals wer Miss Mary McIlquham, youngest daughter of Mr. Walter McIlquham, sr., and Mr John Menzies, of Glen Tay. The bride who looked charming in a handsom wedding gown, was given away by her father, while the Rev. D.M. Buchanan securely fastened the knot which made them one for life. Contrary to the usual custom on such occasions, the services fo bridesmaid and groomsman wer dispensed with, which lent a certain novelty and attractiveness to the ceremony. Fully forty guest were present, and after the ceremony was performed all sat down to a repast of more than ordinary excellence. The remainder of the evening was pleasantly spent in various social enjoyments. The bride taught school for a number of years in Drummond and Lanark townships, and in that time won the golden opinions of all with whom she came in contact. The many handsome and useful presents which she received showed in an unmistakeable manner the esteem in which she is held by her numerous friends. The groom, too, is justly popular among his many associates, and the union has been contacted under the very brightest and most auspicious circumstances. The happy couple left that evening for their future home in Glen Tay, bearing with them the congratulations and best wishes of their many friends. - (Lanark Era) Perth Courier 9 July 1897
