Born in Kilkenny County, Ireland, June 9. 1852. he came to Brooke Township with his parents and later bought a farm of his own on the Tenth Concession of Enniskillen, where he lived until he retired 12 years ago and came to Petroha. In 1873 he married Maggie J. Moore, who died four years ago. Mr. Willoughby led a very active municipal life while he was a farmer. For 15 years he was a member of the Enniskillen Township Council, of which he was deputy reeve for seven years, and he held the position of reeve for 10 terms. He belonged to the United Church and for a number of years was superintendent of the Sunday School In an old Methodist Church of the Tenth Line. Mr. Samuels lived on Waverley atreet in Ottawa for many years and news of his passing will be received with regret by many friends in Ottawa. He had been a resident of Kingston for soma years. 48092 | World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in , he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 12th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, British Army. On March 25, 1918, when the enemy attacked on the right of the battalion frontage and succeeded in penetrating the woods held by his men, Lieutenant Colonel made his way across the open in full view of the enemy. Reaching the men, he succeeded in gathering the remainder of the two right companies. He personally led the counter attack, drove the enemy from the wood, capturing twelve machine guns, seventy German prisoners and restored the original line of defense. Later that same day, when the enemy had penetrated the line near a village, he reorganized his men and brought them forward to a position of readiness for a counter attack. He led the attack in person with the utmost disregard for his own safety and drove the enemy from his position, which resulted himself losing his life. For most conspicuous bravery, determination and gallantry leading his command, he was posthumously awared the Victoria Cross on May 3, 1918. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19 at Macadonia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Sayre and the Rev. Glenn Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mr. Nye was born December 3, 1926, in Greensboro, NC, a son of the late George Lenneau Nye and the late Eileen Setwart Nye. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Nye served the community as a pharmacist for 50 years, as owner of Nye Drug Store and co-owner of Nye-Palace Pharmacy. He was also a pharmacist for the Mullins Hospital, Marion Hospital and Marion County Medical Center. Mr. Nye was a life member of the South Carolina Pharmacy Association and active in the Pee Dee Pharmaceutical Association. Mr. Nye had served on the Board of Directors for Davis National Bank and First National Bank. He had also served as a Boardmember of Pee Dee Academy. He was past President and member of the Mullins Cotillione Club. Mr. Nye was a member of the SAR, Founders and Patriots of America, First Families of Massachusetts and Old Plymouth Colony Descendents. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Nye was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Hut Class and had served as a Trustee and on the Administrative Board. Mr. Nye is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Tweedie Nye of the home; a daughter, Jacquelyn Nye Paterno and a son-in-law, Charles F.
