46809 | Silent Movie Actress. Her father died when she was a year old. Her mother, Christina Fraser Lynch, moved with her two girls to Hollywood when it was a sleepy suburb "over the hill" from Los Angeles in 1909, three years before the first film studio arrived. Like many of the early stars, Helen always worked full time at a "day job", when not filming. During World War II, she was an inspector in an aircraft manufacturing plant. Helen's sister Agnes had bit parts in only two movies, but married Jason Nelson Robards (Senior). She was the custodial stepmother of the more famous Jason Robards, and thus became the mother-in-law of Lauren Bacall. She soon went to movie studios and received little trouble gaining roles, starting out as an extra in 1918. She was looked upon at one time as one of the screen's most promising newcomers. During her career, she was mostly cast in comedies, something that would cause conflict between her and the directors and producers, for she wished to act in more dramatic roles, although still maintaining a great talent for provoking laughter. She acted in a number of films throughout the 1920s and four small roles in the 1930s. It appears she returned one last time to the screen in the 1940 film Women Without Names. | Lynch, Helen (I57605)
