Her obituary appeared on 11 Feb 1948 in the Tribune Press in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Mrs. Ella M. Holland. Mrs. Ella M. Holland, 76, wife of Fred A. Holland, 236 East Main street, died at her home Friday morning after an illness of one week. "Funeral services were conducted from the residence Monday afternoon. Rev. Joseph A. Schofield, jr., pastor of the first Presbyterian church, officiated. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery. "Surviving Mrs. Holland are her husband and several nieces and nephews. "A native of the town of Fine, Mrs. Holland was born Feb. 15, 1871, daughter of James and Mariette Spooner Miller. Her family moved to Rensselaer Falls when she was an infant. She attended schools in Rensselaer Falls and DeKalb. On Oct. 20, 1893 she was married to Fred A. Holland at the bride's home in DeKalb. Rev. Mr. Davies performed the ceremony. "Mr. Holland is a retired farmer. He gave up his farm on the Richville road nine years ago to take up residence in Gouverneur. Prior to becoming a farmer, he was a carpenter. "Mrs. Holland was a member of the Daughter of Union Veterans, First Presbyterian church and the Afternoon circle of the church. "The bearers were Herbert Holland, David Holland, Edwin Holland, Beniah Morrison, Walter Best and Morris Davies." Deceased was born in Perth eighty-two years ago, her maiden name being Jessie Fraser. The late Mrs Munro lived in Almonte for the greater part of her life. She was well and favourably known and a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church. She spent the last five years with her daughters. She is survived by one brother, Dr Wm Fraser of California and six daughters, Mrs J.C. Rosevear, Mrs F.D. Allport, and Mrs W.T. Templeman of Cobourg, Mrs Alex Calder of Echhart, Manitoba, Mrs J. Love of Winnipeg and Mrs W.M. Simpson of Ramsay. Annie, Mrs A.G. Campbell died in Calgary five years ago. There was a short funeral service held at the home of Mrs Allport on Sunday evening at Cobourg by the Rev Mr Bremner of the Presbyterian Church and Rev Mr Norton of the Baptist Church and the remains were brought to Almonte on Monday. The funeral was held from Mr H.O. Simpson's Union St., Rev J.D. McCrae, Rev J.T.E. Blanchard and Rev V.G. Collins taking part. The family have the sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement.
