Thomas Miller, chr. o8 Sep 1809 Cty Dumbarton, Town Dumbarton, William Miller and Mary Burns.

1841 Census
Thomas is located at Bathurst C3 L9E and is listed as having arrived from Scotland in 1820. 2 people born in Scotland 4 children born in Canada.

JR Ernest Miller  May 1993
Thomas Miller would have been 12 years of age when William Miller and Mary Burns left Dumbarton to settle in Lanark Co.

On 23 March 1833 he married Elizabeth Mason at Lanark.  Elizabeth was the 2nd daughter of Robert Mason and Helen Gourlie who settled in 1820 on C2 L9 Lanark twp.  Robert Mason was the first school master in Lanark Village, a weaver by trade and a strict Presbyterian
.
Their first child, William, may have been born at Lanark, as he is recorded as being baptised at St. Andrew's, Lanark.

Thomas and Elizabeth moved to Bathurst, with his brother, and settled on L9 Con 3 where their family grew to number ten. This property was purchased from John Munro, the eldest son of Peter Munro. and was later known as the Alex Stewart farm, front part of West half of Lot 6 C 3 Bathurst (approximately 50 acres). The deed from John Gray is dated 3 November 1854, registered 17 Dec 1855 to John Munro, and sold 22 September 1860 to Thomas Miller for $1200, double the price John Munro paid in 1854. This property adjoined the 63 acre farm on which Peter Munro Sr. lived after moving from Dalhousie Twp.

Elizabeth died on 27 January 1850 after giving birth to twin sons.  Andrew Burns Miller was raised by his uncle George Miller.  John Mason Miller was raised by his aunt Janet (Mrs. Robert Boyle) and went to Australia with them in the 1860's.
Many members of this family went west and settled in North Dakota and Minnesota USA.  My heartfelt thanks go to Clarice Bachman, wife of William Miller Stefon, of Chehalis, Washington for her tremendous effort in collecting data on this branch of the family and for the five days we spent proof reading and correcting printouts.

4560 Early documents placed William Miller 1821, on ?b?C6 L5?/b?, a lot originally allotted to John Blair in 1820, with the notation that Blair is in the USA, Miller is here. It is not certain who 'Miller' might be.
William Miller, Scotland 1822 - 1n 1834 ?b?C5 L7?/b? indicates that the lot was originally to him but now assigned to Owen Flood.
William Miller, Scotland 1822 - In 1834 he is on ?b?C5 L5?/b?, apparently 100 acres of reasonable land.

4561 Early Monday morning, Paul Nichols passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital. With broken hearts we find solace remembering and embracing the joy and smiles that Paul brought to so many. Paul lived every moment to the maximum with his boundless energy, his jokes, his thoughtfulness, his ability to connect with anyone, his hard work, his love of his family, and his willingness to engage in any adventure that came his way.

Just two hours before Paul's stroke he was with his family, cheering on his grandson in the Carleton Place Santa Claus parade. Just six weeks earlier he embraced a dream backcountry canoe adventure, being dropped off by a float plane in the Northern Ontario wilderness. He was happy.

Paul is survived by his wife Robin Andrew, his children Amyko, Elijah and Tirzah, his siblings Ross, Lois Ann and Allison and his grandchildren Kaiden, Ivy, and Nova. He was predeceased by his parents Lyle and Ruth and sister Glenda.

Visitation will take place at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, in Carleton Place, on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 5-8 pm, and Tuesday December 13, from 11 am ? 12 noon.  The funeral service will then be held in the chapel at 12 noon and a reception will follow.

THE SERVICE WILL BE LIVESTREAMED ON YOUTUBE STARTING AT 11:55 a.m., GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH "barkerfh Paul Nichols"

4584 Edward Hundert, beloved husband and father, died suddenly on June 18, 2020.He was 80.

Ed was born in New York City, May 28, 1940, the only child of Lillian and Gershon Hundert who had emigrated to America from, respectively, England and Galicia (then Poland). They were part of the last great wave of Yiddish-speaking Jews immigrating from diaspora communities all over Eastern Europe.

Ed is survived by his wife Carol Gibson, his daughter Martha Hundert (Jeremy Fraiberg), his step-daughter Shawn Bayes (Margaret Perry) and his grandchildren, Sam and Ben Fraiberg.Ed grew up a poor, much-loved only child in the Bronx, attended Stuyvesant High School, an elite public high schools of New York City, and attended the City University of New York.He went to graduate school at NYU and the University of Rochester.Ed began his career as an academic at the University of Calgary and moved to the UBC in 1966. Ed inspired generations of undergraduates, including many who were not history majors, with his passion for the life of the mind. Just a short time before his death, he received letters from two former students who, decades after they had taken his unusually popular and memorable course in intellectual history, wrote to say how inspiring he had been. Ed was an unusually gifted lecturer---forceful, learned, and lucid---and he received a teaching award for his superb work.

Ed was a devoted and attentive father and step-father. Ahead of his time, he was in charge of the household logistics and cooked dinner every night. Bonding over food came naturally to him. He and Martha spent countless mornings breakfasting at McDonalds, and searching out the best dim sum and Szechuan restaurants. He was also a dedicated chauffeur, driving Martha to school almost every morning for 13 years. He was Shawn's editor, organizer and proud cheerleader. Ed will be deeply missed. A memorial will be held at a later date.
