Bill was the much loved uncle to many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly. 2611 | Battle Creek (MI) Enquirer Sunday, June 22, 1969 Athens boy killed in farm accident ATHENS -- Craig Allen Rice, 3 1/2 years old, was dead on arrival at a local doctor's office at 7 p.m. Saturday after he had been run over by a fertilizer spreader attached to a pick-up truck operated by his father, Richard Russell Rice. The accident happened on the family farm on 6 Mil Road. The vehicles were being backed at the time, according to State Police from the Tekonsha Post who investigated. The child's chest was crushed. Craig, who would have been four years old Sept. 21, is survived by his parents, Richard and Eva May (Baird) Rice; brothers, Richard Lee, 6 and Garry Russell, 5; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Baird of 821 Allen, Ypsilanti and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lloyd Pyke of 830 E. After high school she attended college in Oklahoma and received her teaching degree. After college, she returned to Laverne and taught school in that area for a time. In 1936 she moved to Newberg, Oregon where her parents were living. She continued teaching in Newberg and attended college in Monmouth and Portland. She married Ira Lamson on May 13, 1939 in Willamina. She taught for the Willamina school district from 1939 to about 1954. In 1955 the family moved to the Prineville area. In Prineville she taught junior high school English and was the dean of girls for about 20 years. She retired in 1975. During her career in Prineville she was also involved with the junior high honor society and was coach for the cheerleading squad. Her favorite hobbies were reading, flower gardening and sewing. She enjoyed family-centered activities and helping others. She was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a volunteer for the Neat Repeat, Crook County Red Cross and other health-care programs in the area. Surviving are her husband, Ira Lamson of Prineville, two children, Sue Davenport of Stratford, CT and Sheri Lowery of Boring, OR; two brothers, Thomas Beasley of King City, OR, Jimmy Beasley of Boone, NC; three sisters, Joy Smith of Eugene, Minnie Ruth Hodges of Newberg, and Ann Bristow of Gresham; five granchildren and two great-grandchildren.
