Birth:      Dec., 1833
Mercer County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death:      Nov. 4, 1917
Cherry County
Nebraska, USA

Son of John Gibson and Nancy "Penrod" Gibson.

Married Mary L. Griffin, abt 1855,
Father of 12 children: Hugh Washington, George William, Clara Arnetta, James Francis, Margaret Elizabeth, John Arthur, Amanda T, Charles Henry, Alfred Robert, William Orville, Jennie Louise and Unknown child.

Robert Gibson was born in Mercer County, PA December 1833 and died at the home of his son, Charles, in Cherry County, Neb Nov. 4, 1917 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 27 days.
At the age of 22, Mr. Gibson married Miss Mary Griffin, to which union 12 children were born, 5 of whom preceded him to the great beyond. In 1881 his wife died, after which Mr. Gibson kept the younger children together until all grew to maturity.
Shortly after his marriage in 1855, he and his family traveled by overland in a wagon to Michigan and a few years later by the same method to near Streeter, IL. where he lived 4 or 5 years. Then he cam to Gillman, IL. where he lived 4 or 5 years. In 1875 he came to Abaline, KS and 7 years later came to Custer County NE taking up a homestead about 16 miles south west of Ansley. About 1891, he sold his homestead to Charles Chrisman, and since that time he has made his home with his children.
Mr. Gibson was a devoted Christian from childhood coming from good old Cumberland Presbyterian stock. He united with the Methodist Church, however, and was loyal to his church and his Master. When he came to Custer County, he was quick to see the need of moral and religious teaching in the rural sections so far from town and united with the United Brethren Church not far from his homestead. He held several official positions from this church and was also licensed as an exhorter, and when preachers were scarce and services few, he would preach at different school houses and help in revival meetings.
He leaves to mourn his departure, seven children as follows:
Hugh W. Gibson, Nash OK
Frank Gibson, Funkhouser, Scottsbluff, NE
John A. Gibson, Cherry Co, NE
Charles H. Gibson, Cherry Co, NE
Alfred R. Gibson, Omaha, NE
William Orvil Gibson, Omaha, NE
also 38 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Remains were brought back to Custer County and funeral services were held in the Eudell Church, and were conducted by Rev. W.L. Handsell, paster of M.E. Church at Ansley. Interment was made at Eudell Cemetary.

Robert's body was relocated from Eudell cemetery to Box Elder cemetery, Crumro, Custer, Nebraska.

252      Burns, Robert Lindsay
Robert (Bob) L. Burns went peacefully to be with the Lord on February 3, 2011. Bob is survived by his loving and ever-loyal wife of 49 years, Evelyn, his two daughters Barbara and Beverly, three granddaughters Robyn, Meagan and Brooke, and grandson, David. Bob was raised and educated in Nanaimo. After completing high school, he attended UBC where he studied sciences. Returning home, he joined Jean Burns Ltd., a thriving family fashion business, and continued until the early 1980's when he entered full-time Christian service. Wakesiah Gospel Chapel, Camp Imadene and Christian Camping International (CCI) were all very dear to Bob's heart. His leadership role in each afforded him extraordinary opportunity to touch the lives of many.A devoted and gifted minister for 40 years, Bob's unfaltering vision, commitment and faithful devotion to God's work is perhaps his most important legacy. Bob's self-sacrifice and care for others was as natural to him as breathing. It is this life sustaining service that his family, friends and colleagues will undoubtedly and unendingly remember him by. A true creative genius, Bob will long be remembered for his Sunday School of the Air radio program, elaborate Christmas concerts, and chorale presentations.Bob's four grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as Pa, will always treasure his love of life and family, sense of humor and adventuresome spirit. His family has dear memories of his original poetry, story telling, and his love of relaxing while puttering in the garden or taking long walks on Qualicum Beach, his favorite place on earth. The family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation of the exceptional and compassionate care of Bob by the staff of Nanaimo Travellers Lodge A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Christ Community Church, 2221 Bowen Rd.
