2407 | Avery A noble life ended in a peaceful and happy death on Thursday, April 13th, when Mrs Mary Avery, widow of the late Alexander Avery, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Hugh McDonald of Dalhousie township. Deceased had been ill for about a year, but was confined to her room for about six months. The late Mrs Avery, whose maiden name was Mary Mc Culloch, was born on the Bathurst Line eighty-seven years ago. There was a large family of brothers and sisters, and her passing away removed the last of that pioneer family. Fifty two years ago Mary McCulloch became the wife of Mr. Avery, who predeceased her by twenty-two years. During all her married life she resided quite near the place where she died, thereby being a resident of that community for over half a century. Their union was blessed by a family of three daughters and two sons, of whom all grew to manhood and womanhood. The family are Andrew in British Columbia; Peter in North Dakota; Duncan on the homestead on the Bathurst Line; Mary (Mrs Hugh McDonald) of Dalhousie, and Jessie died a few years ago. On Saturday afternoon the funeral took place to the Highland Line Cemetery at McDonald's Corners, Rev. A.M. Little conducting the services at the house and grave, and a large number of people followed the remains to the grave as a last tribute to a pioneer who was always worthy of the esteem in which she was held. The pallbearers were Messrs. John McKinnon, William Ashby, A.J. Wilson, Hugh Adams, Patrick Rodger and Thomas Cameron of Lanark. Perth Courier 28 Apr 1922, p.7 | McCulloch, Mary (I54398)
