2358 At She Passed Away ln Hospital at North Bay
Lanark Era
On May 16th Deaconess Edith M Heffron, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs William Heffron passed peacefully away to the spirit world. Her death, which took place in North Bay General Hospital, was a sorrowing shock to her many friends as none thought the end was so near.

Edith Heffron was born at Fallbrook March 21st 1889. While yet in her teens she gave her heart and life to Jesus during the pastorate of Rev Mr Murray. Eight year ago she offered her services to the Methodist church to train for deaconess work. She spent two years on probation and during-this time she attended the Deaconess Training School in Toronto. She was then ordained to the office of deaconess. The next four years were spent in Victoria BC, where she did most valiant service proving beyond any doubt her fitness and the wisdom of her choice of professlon. In September 1917 she was stationed at North Bay and, until tqken ill last October, she had rendered most effective service as she went about doing all the good she possibly could. She was smitten with the terrible flu. Pleurisy developed and In spite of the best of attention she was unable to regain her health and bade farwell and answered the call to that higher service.

She died as she had lived, unselfishly she gave her life for others. Wherever she was known she was highly regarded and greatly beloved. All through her life she reflected a cheerful spirit and seemed to live that she might make sunshine for others. Her sweet submission and patience was a great inspiration to all who knew her. Her death is a distinct loss to the church she so dearly loved. She was one greatly devoted to her church and In her early years attended not only the regular church services but took an active part in the Sunday school work. Her faithfulness will ever be an inspiration to those who remain.

Last Friday evening a memorial service was held for deceased in North Bay Methodist church. The body was brought to her home in Lanark village and on Sunday the funeral services were conducted by the Methodist minister Rev J W Shier assisted by Rev J W Shier assisted by Rev J C MacLeod of the Presbyterian church. The pall bearers were: Messrs R Shillington, Ed Shilllngton, William Cameron, Lyman Playfair, Allle Stewart and William H McFarlane. Beautlful floral offerings adorned the casket and consisted of a pillow from North Buy Methodist church; wreaths from Lanark Methodist church, King's Daughters of North Bay Methodist church, Miss Bailey's Sunday school class of North Bay, Mr and Mrs Donald Cameron, Earnest and parents. A very large concourse of friends and acquaintances assembled for the funeral services which testified to the respect in which deceased was held. Besides her parents and a host of friends she leave to mourn her loss two brothers ? Ernest of Kingston and Frank at home ? and three sisters? Mrs Donald Cameron of Flower Station, Mabel and Elsie at home. The deepest sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.

2366 At the recent final session of the Lanark County Council in Perth, Reeve C.M. Forbes, chairman of the Roads and Bridges Committee, red the following interesting report which was adopted:
Since the June session of Council the road work of the County, in construction and maintenance, has been carried forward without interruption, up to the end of the season and to the poiint where the funds allotted to the various pronjects had been expended, except in the case of County Road Outfit #1. An outbreak of typhoid fever in this camp caused us to stop this work in the month of September, and disperse the men. Six men were attacked by the disease and we regret to have to report that one fine young man, Stanley McDonald, of the township of Bathurst died as a result.

Died of Typhoid Fever. Stanley Holden McDonald, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter McDonald, Lanark, died on Oct. 24th of typhoid fever. He had been working on the good roads between Franktown and Carleton Place when he and several others were stricken with the disease.

Information from a descendant of James Skiffington, that one of Elizabeth's sisters had a child born out of wedlock to Robert Henry Boyle. The girl's name was Drusilla and the sister apparently handed the baby yle on the dock and told her that the child would be better off with her. The child was raised by the Boyles in Australia.
