1851 | aged 33 years 11 months - wife of T. R. White 1892, Friday January 15, The Almonte Gazette page 4 DEATHS At Almonte, January 12th, Charlotte Elizabeth McLaren, wife of Mr Thomas R. White, aged 33 years and 11 months. 1892, Friday January 15, The Almonte Gazette front page The Late Mrs T.R. White It is with very deep regret that we announce this week the death of Mrs T.R. White, which took place on Tuesday last at the early age of 33 years and 11 months. Mrs White was a daughter of the late Mr Neil McLaren, of Bathhurst, and has been a resident of Almonte for about sixteen years, during which time, by her cheerful disposition and kindliness of heart, she made many warm friends, who are deeply grieved by her untimely death. Mrs White had not been in good health the past few years, and was seriously ill with lung trouble on several occasions. About two weeks ago she was attacked with la grippe, and, although at first no fatal results were expected, it gradually led to a breaking up of her system. She leaves behind her, besides her husband, three children, two girls and a boy. The youngest is only five years old, and will sadly miss his mother's watchful care. We tender our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. Contributor: Gary J Byron (49329383) ?W 48010981-sent links to parents | McLaren, Charlotte Elisabeth (I20388)

The deceased lady had a wide circle of acquaintances in Ramsay, among whom her untimely death will cause deep sorrow. 1855 | aged 62 years In Ramsay on the 4th inst, Mr James Snedden, aged 61 years 1882, Friday April 7, The Almonte Gazette, page 3 The Late Mr James Snedden The chronicler of local events has at no time a sadder duty to perform than when called on to record the death of those well known to the generality of our readers, and who have to certain extent identified themselves with the history of the locality. No face was more familiar on our streets than that of the gentleman whose death it is our sad duty to record to day. Very few indeed of our readers in Almonte and the surrounding neighbourhood but can recall the good-humoured countenance of the man who was so well and favourably known at "Banker Snedden," but whose smile will be seen no more. The late Mr James Snedden was born on the 11th line of Beckwith in 1821. About fifty-five years ago the father of the deceased removed to Ramsay, settling at Rosebank, and building the grist mill there, afterwards going into the lumbering business, and dying at Quebec of cholera about 1834. At the time of his father's death James, who was the eldest son, was about fourteen years of age, and from that time he acted as a father to his brothers and sisters. The three brothers, James, William and John continued to work harmoniously together until the youngest was about thirty years of age, but although they were then working each for himself, the elder brother never lost his fatherly interest in their well being. Like his father, the deceased engaged in lumbering and speculation of other kinds, and was very fortunate in his pursuits, but the hard times in the lumber trade and a heavy expenditure he had been led into to improve the passage from his timber limits, caused him heavy losses. It must not, however, be supposed that he was straightened in his resources, as the widow and family are left well provided for. The deceased attended church at Rosebank on Sunday, as usual, and on Monday morning he harnessed his horse to come to Almonte, He went into the house to wash his hands and coming out of the wash-room he placed his hand on his head and exclaiming "Oh! My head!" fell to the floor in an apoploptic fit, and only rallied for a brief time in the evening, and died on Tuesday morning about six o'clock, in the 61st year of his age. The deceased was borne to the 8th line cemetery on Thursday afternoon, the funeral being attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbours who were unanimous in the opinion that a good and worthy neighbour has been called away. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. | Snedden, James (I59030)

1856 | aged 63 years 1888, Friday March 9,The Almonte Gazette, front page Obit. We regret to record the death of another good and highly esteemed resident of the town in the person of Marion Gray, wife of Mr John Crawford, who passed to her lone home on Monday afternoon last, after a short illness from inflammation of the lungs, aged 63 years. Although the deceased lady had suffered from the same disease on more than on occasion before, the final hour came somewhat suddenly at last, and carried sadness to the firesides on many warm friends of the aged couple. The late Mrs Crawford was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and came to live in Almonte after her marriage at Perth about 25 years ago. Here Mr Crawford started the first bakery in town, in the building on the west side of the river now used as a private residence by Mr Henry Forgie. After carrying on business for a few years on the West Side be built the bakehouse at present owned and occupied by Mr A. McLean, where, for several years, he conducted a very successful business, and some ten of twelve years ago retired on a competence. Mrs Crawford's death will be regretted by a large circle of friends, by whom she was held in the highest respect, her many sterling womanly qualities winning for her the friendship of all who knew her. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon to the eighth line cemetery, and was a fitting tribute to the memory of one who had been a kind and loving wife, a good citizen and a true Christian. White, aged 74 years 1918, Friday October 18, The Almonte Gazette front page Mr T.R. White After an illness of some months Mr T.R. White passed away on Monday, aged 74 years. McMunn ( a brother of Mr Wm McMunn of town). Possessed of keen commercial instincts, he gradually increased the business by adding hardware, plumbing and other lines, and was so successful that in the closing years of his life he could enjoy the results of his earlier years of labour and thrift. A family of three children were born to Mr and Mrs White. These were Mrs Jas McCreary (Ida), of Sudbury; Mrs (Dr) Webster (Tot), of Vancouver; and Richard T. at Winnipeg. About twenty-four years ago Mrs White died, and some years later Mr White was again married to Miss Mirtena Barrie, who is still living. 1859 | Aged 83 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Montgomery, Drummond, on Saturday evening, July 10th, there passed away Mrs. Matthew Ballantine, Sr. She had not been robust in health for the last nine months. On October 27th last year she took a stroke, and from that time on never seemed to regain the strength she formerly enjoyed. She took tea with the folk Saturday evening as usual and afterwards moved about in much her accustomed way. While in the house, and about fifteen minutes past six, she was seized with a stroke again and died almost instantly, cerebral apoplexy being the cause. Mr. Ballantine died Sept. 1904. Elizabeth Ann Todd was born in Ballymena, Ireland, Sept. 21st, 1826. Ballymena is a swet little town in the North of Ireland, situated in the heart of a fertile district. The people of Ballymena are noted for their hospitality, and one that wants to experience a genuine Irish welcome must visit Ballymena. In 1830 the family moved from Ireland's green shores to seek fortune in the land of promise - Canada. They settled on the farm now owned by Mr. Michael Murphy, which the poetic fancy of these Celtic pioneers had christened "Clover Valley Farm." In 1849 she was married, on March 30th, to the late Matthew Ballantine. There was a family of ten sons and daughters, eight of whom are alive. Jane (Mrs. A. Armstrong) at Sumas, B.C.; Mary (Mrs. Wm. Montgomery), Drummond; Margaret (Mrs. James Closs), deceased; Elizabeth (Mrs. Alex. Reid), Kisbey, Sask.; David T., at Victoria, B.C.; Matthew J., on the homestead, Lanark; Sarah T., died in 1881; John, in Sidney, B.C.; Samuel, Carnduff, Sask.; Agnes E., in Summerland, B.C.
