"Obituary.
Mr. William Rudsdale. The oldest native and resident of Bathurst, Mr. William Rudsdale, died at his residence, 3rd line, on Saturday last, at the age of 81 years. Deceased was born on the farm on which he died, and which was drawn from the Crown Lands by his father, the late Richard Rudsdale, and scarcely had the young settler and his wife settled on this place, when a son was born to them, now just deceased. This was in 1817, when the township was first settled and the pioneer's axe had scarcely made an impression on the introdden forest stretching over this new township. The elder Mr. Rudsdale was a bluff Yorkshireman, coming from near Scarborough, and possessed all the special characteristics of that part of merrie England; and his son William was an apt copy of his father in this respect. Mrs. Rudsdale, sr., was also an Englishwoman and the twain were married before crossing the ocean for Canada. The deceased married Margaret McKerracher, who survives him, together with their son Richard M. on the homestead; and two sisters Catherine (Mrs. George Fletcher) and Ann (Mrs. Herman Fowler), both residents of the United States. The late Mr. Rudsdale was a staunch Reformer all his days. The funeral took place on Monday to Elmwood Cemetery, and was a very large one. The services were conducted by Rev. D. Currie, of Knox church."

Margaret (daughter of Donald "Daniel" McKerracher and Catherine Hill, daughter of Donald "Daniel" McKerracher and Sarah White) was born on 4 Feb 1842 in Bathurst Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 16 Feb 1911 in Burgess North Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. 1. Richard Milner "Dick" Rudsdale was born on 14 Dec 1865 in Bathurst Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 31 Dec 1937 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 3 Jan 1938 in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
2. Catherine Rudsdale was born on 27 Dec 1866 in Ontario, Canada; died on 13 Oct 1939 in Stutsman County, North Dakota, United States.
3. Annie Rudsdale was born in 1872 in Ontario, Canada; and died.
4. William John Rudsdale was born on 7 May 1877 in Lanark Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 11 Apr 1878.

Died:
Richard married Frances Plews 27 Jan 1806 and they had three children - Eleanor, Jane and Anne. After Frances died he married Ann Milner 12 Dec 1814. They had six children - Mary, William, Eliza Jane, Emma, Sophia and Peter. Richard immigrated to Canada with his second wife and all his children about 1816. No information on the death dates for Richard and Anne have been found. They were on the 1861 census but not on the 1871 census. Most of the family is buried in Elmwood Cemtery, Perth which was established in 1872. It is possible that they were burried in the Pioneer Cemetery that opened in 1817 were most of the stones can no longer be seen or read. They could also have been buried on the farm as was the custom when there was no graveyard.

Richard married Ann Milner on 12 Dec 1814 in Seamer, Yorkshire, England. Ann was born about 1786 in Cayton, Scarborough Borough, North Yorkshire, England; died between 1861 and 1871 in Bathurst Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Unknown. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
