    Died:
Aged 83 years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Montgomery, Drummond, on Saturday evening, July 10th, there passed away Mrs. Matthew Ballantine, Sr. She had not been robust in health for the last nine months. On October 27th last year she took a stroke, and from that time on never seemed to regain the strength she formerly enjoyed. She took tea with the folk Saturday evening as usual and afterwards moved about in much her accustomed way. While in the house, and about fifteen minutes past six, she was seized with a stroke again and died almost instantly, cerebral apoplexy being the cause. Mr. Ballantine died Sept. 1904.

Elizabeth Ann Todd was born in Ballymena, Ireland, Sept. 21st, 1826. Ballymena is a swet little town in the North of Ireland, situated in the heart of a fertile district. The people of Ballymena are noted for their hospitality, and one that wants to experience a genuine Irish welcome must visit Ballymena. In 1830 the family moved from Ireland's green shores to seek fortune in the land of promise - Canada. They settled on the farm now owned by Mr. Michael Murphy, which the poetic fancy of these Celtic pioneers had christened "Clover Valley Farm." In 1849 she was married, on March 30th, to the late Matthew Ballantine. There was a family of ten sons and daughters, eight of whom are alive. Jane (Mrs. A. Armstrong) at Sumas, B.C.; Mary (Mrs. Wm. Montgomery), Drummond; Margaret (Mrs. James Closs), deceased; Elizabeth (Mrs. Alex. Reid), Kisbey, Sask.; David T., at Victoria, B.C.; Matthew J., on the homestead, Lanark; Sarah T., died in 1881; John, in Sidney, B.C.; Samuel, Carnduff, Sask.; Agnes E., in Summerland, B.C. Mrs. Arch. Affleck of Middleville is a sister.

The funeral will take place on Monday at two o'clock, Rev. R.W. Kelly, assisted by Rev. D.C. McIntosh, officiating. A large number of friends and acquaintances followed the remains to the grave. Interment at Lanark Village cemetery.
