    Mrs John McDougall
    Family and friends were shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Agnes Jane McDougall on friday, November 6, 1970 at Kemptville District Hospital. Although she was in failing health for several years, her cheery, friendly manner and quiet personality, along with her faith and courage, made her a joy to be with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

    Daughter of the late Alex Ferguson and his wife, Agnes Geddes, she was born on February 11, 1883 in the township of North Sherbrooke.

    On December 6, 1911, at Lanark, she was united in marriage to John McDougall, Prior to the purchase of their farm on the 8th line of Bathurst, they lived for a number of years at Elphin,

    Left to mourn her loss are three daughters, Florence (Mrs. Craig Greer), Maberly; Blanche (Mrs Charles Foster), Bathurst; Margaret (Mrs Russell Banville), Merrickville, and one son, Stanley, Oxford Mills. Also surviving is one sister, Katie (Mrs. John Sargeant), Bathurst; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, three sisters and one brother.

    The funeral service was conducted by Mr. Jensen of Oxford Mills from the Morrow Funeral Home, Perth, on Monday, Nov. 9, 1970. Interment was in Crawford's Cemetery, Elphin.

    The pallbearers were Kenneth Blair, James Rutherford, Harold Trueloove, Ernest Rogers, Lloyd McVeigh and William Charles.

    The beautiful floral tributes and donations to the Canadian Bible Society and The Ontario Heart Foundation showed the esteem in which Mrs McDougall was held.

    North Sherbrooke, Nov 30th, Alex. Ferguson. He was born near Elphin, Oct 10, 1846. His first wife was Catherine Buchanan (Buchan), and his second, who survives him with four daughters, was the former Agnes Geddes. One son died in infancy and the eldest daughter, wife of Duncan Ferguson, jr., died a few years ago. The survivors are; Mrs. John McDougal, and Mrs. James Gilmour, of Elphin; Mrs. John Sergeant, of Harper, and Tena at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. McIntyre, of Dalhousie Lake. His brother, Duncan, died on Jan 1st, this year.

    Agnes Geddes, fourth in the family of Daniel Geddes, was born at the parental home in North Sherbrooke in 1857. She attended school in the Elphin area. On January 23rd, 1880, she married Alexander Ferguson and they lived on the lot just south of the one owned by Duncan Ferguson. They had a family of five girls and one boy, who lived a few years only. Shortly after the death of her husband in November 1917, Agnes moved to a house on the outskirts of Lanark Village where she lived until her death in 1942. She is buried in Crawford's Cemetery in Dalhousie Township.

    Mrs. Alex. Ferguson - On Sunday morning, Feb. 1, there passed away in the Great War Memorial hospital, Perth, one of Lanark's older and much respected residents, Agnes Ferguson, wife of the late Alex. Ferguson, in her 85th year. Almost three weeks previous she had broken her hip through a fall in her home on the Perth road near the village and although everything possible was done to effect a recovery the shock and suffering proved too severe for her advanced age. Mrs. Ferguson had enjoyed exceptional health and vigor in spite of her years and her death came as a shock to he many friends in this community where she was well known for her loyalty and many other sterling qualities. Formerly Miss Agnes Geddes, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Geddes of North Sherbrooke. Sixty-two years ago she was married at McDonald's Corners to Alexander Ferguson, and lived on the second line of North Sherbrooke until the death of Mr. Ferguson in December 1917. Shortly after, she and her daughter, Mary Christena, took up residence on the Perth road near the village of Lanark. Left to mourn the loss of a loving mother and an exemplary wife are three daughters, Agnes Jane (Mrs. John McDougall), Kathren Jennette (Mrs. John Sergeant), both of Bathurst, and Mary Christena at home. There are three children deceased, Margaret (Mrs. Duncan Ferguson), Violet (Mrs. James Gilmour) and Dewight. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Bishop of Alberta and Tena, Mrs. Neville, of Minnesota and two brothers, Daniel Geddes of Elphin and Adam Geddes of Minnesota surviving. The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence of George S. Young, to McDonald's Corners' church, with Rev. P. C. Lewis of Lanark and Rev. K. McCaskill of McDonald's Corners officiating. Interment took place in Crawford's cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were : M. M. Knowles, Wilfred McLaren, Robert McFarlane, Ben Willis, Chas. Deachman and Percy Ferguson.

    North Sherbrooke. at the home of his son-in-law, Alex Ferguson, Thursday Oct. 22nd, Mr. Daniel Geddes, aged 78 years & 7 mos. He was born near Glasgow, Scotland and came with his parents at the age of four years to Canada, settling first near Herron's Mills, in 1840 or 41.     Daniel Geddes was born in Scotland in the Glasgow area April 26, 1823, second in the family of David Geddes and Agnes Lambie. His parents came to Canada in 1827 and located in Township of North Sherbrooke, Lanark County, province of Ontario, a few miles east of Snow Road. Daniel attended school in the area and as a young man located on Lot 12, Concession 1 in the Township of North Sherbrooke about a mile west of Dalhousie Lake. He married Nancy Ferguson, a daughter of Duncan Ferguson and Barbara Currie, in St. Andrew's Church, Perth, Ontario on October 18, 1850. Nancy was born May 23, 1830. Through hard work the land was cleared and Daniel became a successful farmer. The first home on the property is still standing and is used as a machinery shed. It was built of logs and was replaced by a frame house in the 1890's. To Daniel and Nancy a family of eleven was born, five girls and six boys. With the exception of Duncan who died of pneumonia at the age of twenty-six, they all lived to a "ripe old age". When Daniel reached the age when he was unable to continue working, the farm was taken over by his son Daniel, who was commonly known as Dan's Dan. He continued to live with his son and the other members of the family, living in Ontario, spending about a month at a time with each. Daniel and Nancy were living with their daughter Agnes, on the outskirts of the Village of Lanark in October, 1908, when they contracted an illness from which they both died within five days. They are buried in Crawford Cemetery, Dalhousie Township.

    Daniel married Agnes "Nancy" Ferguson in 18 Oct in St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Perth, Ontario, Canada.
