    Floyd P. Thornber, 79, of 414 W. Fourth St., died Friday at home after a brief illness. He was a native of Volney who lived most of his life in Fulton.

    Mr. Thornber retired after serving as principal at Fulton Junior High School from 1965 to 1971. He was principal at Fairgreive Elementary School from 1959 to 1965 and Phillips Street Elementary School from 1953 to 1959. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from Oswego State Teachers' College in 1938. He attended graduate school at Syracuse University.

    Mr. Thornber was an Army captain who served in the Fourth Armored Division during World War II. He served in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. Mr. Thornber received the Bronze Star for heroism.

    He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fulton and served on its board of trustees and the education memorial fund committee.

    Mr. Thornber was a member of Hiram Lodge 144 F&AM in Fulton, the New York State Retired Teachers' Association and was awarded life membership to the Salvation Army in August 1995.

    He was a former member of the Fulton Kiwanis Club.

    Mr. Thornber was an avid golfer and a member of the Bedford Creek Golf Course in Sackets Harbor and Emerald Crest Golf Course in Palermo.

    His wife, the former Jennie M. Stillman, died in 1976 and a son, Lynn A. Thornber, died in 1992.

    Surviving are a son, George F. of Fulton; a daughter, Sharon L. Thornber of Sackets Harbor; a brother, Ernest of Fulton; a sister, Enola Germain of Oswego; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

    Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Fulton with the Rev. Mark D. Kimpland officiating. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Volney.

    Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. Masonic services are 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Education Memorial Fund or Volunteers of Oswego County Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

    FULTON ? Services for Mrs. Jennie S. Thornber, 58, of 414 W. Fourth St., who died Tuesday at home, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bundyville.

    Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the family home.

    Born in Lorraine, she resided in Fulton 22 years. She had retired as a schoolteacher, having taught at the Phillip School.

    Mrs. Thornber was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Fayetteville chapter 197, OES.

    She also was a member of the State Retired Teachers Association.

    Surviving are her husband, Floyd P.; a daughter, Sharon L.; two sons, George F. and Lynn Al an; two sisters, Mrs. Marian Moreton of Merritt Island, Fla., and Mrs. Leona Macklen of Lorraine; two brothers, Spencer of Seattle, Wash., and the Rev. Leon Stillman of Bombay, N. Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

    Contributions may be made to the educational memorial fund of the First Unified Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

    Bert Roe Thornber, 71, of 111 North First St. died Saturday night at his home after a lingering illness.

    He was born at Big Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 18. 1883 and had made his home in Fulton for the last 60 years. He was an ardent and outstanding bowler for many years and a member of the Old Timers bowling five. For some years he was a vital factor in his team city chamoions.

    Mr. Thornber was a carpenter by trade and worked until his retirement five years ago. On Sent 24, 1914 he married Miss Augusta Burchim in Minetto. He was a member of Hiram Lodge 144 F. & A. M.

    Surviving are his wife; two sons, Floyd Thornber principal of Phillip Street junior high school, and Ernest Thornber both of Fulton; a daughter, Mrs Edward (Enola) Germain of Oswego; a brother, Benjamin, of Sandy Creek, and five grandchildren.

    Funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:10 p. m., at the family home, with the Rev. William Van ArsKlale officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Bundyville.

    FULTON '97 Mrs Augusta L. Thornber of 111 North First St., widow of Bert R Thornber died Thursday morning in Lee Memorial hospital after a short illness.

    Mrs. Thornber was born in the Town of Volney, daughter of the late Alonso and Nellie Sawyer Burchim. She was a life resident of the Fulton area and attended First Methodist church.

    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edward Germaim Oswego: two sons, Ernest Thornber and Fred Thornber, principal of Fairgrieve Junior High school, both of Fulton: a brother, Floyd Burchim of Minetto: six grandchildren: six great grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

    Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the home of her son. Floyd Thornber 414 West Fourth St. with Rev. J.B. Burwell, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating
