Sept. 7 - Pvt. George Moreton, 33, Lorraine, was killed in action in France Aug. 11, according to a War Department telegram received by his wife, Marian ?b?Stillman ?/b?Moreton. Pvt. Moreton was inducted into the Army on Nov. 27, 1943. Arriving in England early in June (he went) to France with an infantry division. In his last letter to his wife, dated July 27, and received by her Aug. 15, he did not refer to the war. He was the first Lorraine man killed in action in this war.
He was born in Bilston, England, Jan. 5, 1911, the youngest of five children of the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moreton. He came to Lorraine when about a year and a half old, with his parents, his father having been assigned as pastor of the Lorraine Methodist Church.

George married Marian Anabel Stillman on 20 Mar 1937. Marian (daughter of Benjamin Franklin Stillman and Mary "May" Catherine Spencer) was born on 25 Aug 1912 in Lorraine, Jefferson County, New York, United States; died on 27 Apr 1976 in Merritt Island, Brevard, Florida, United States. "Benjamin Stillman Rites Held. Lorraine -- The funeral for Benjamin F. Stillman, 85, of 1366 S. Banana Drive, Merrill Island, Fla., formerly of Lorraine, who died March 23 in Rockledge, Fla., was held March 26 at Florida Memorial Gardens with Rev. James T. Dunham, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cocoa, Fla., officiating.
"Besides his widow, Mrs. May C. Stillman, he is survived by two sons, three daughters, 18 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
"A native of Lorraine, Mr. Stillman married Miss May Spencer at Lowville in 1905. The couple settled at Lorraine where he worked as a blacksmith and carpenter. Following his retirement in 1951 the couple moved to Florida." [From fultonhistory.com]

"Mrs. Mae [sic] Stillman Dies at 84. Lorraine-- Mrs. May C. Stillman, 84, of Merritt Island, Fla., and a former resident of Lorraine, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Tampa, Fla. She was the widow of Benjamin Stillman.
"Mrs. Stillman, a native of DeKalb, is survived by two sons, Spencer B., Seattle, Wash., and Leon F., Mannsville; three
daughters, Mrs. Marion Moreton, Merritt Island, Mrs. Jenn Thornber, Fulton, and Mrs. Leona Macklen, Lorraine; a sister,
Mrs. [sic] Edith Spencer, Kissimmee, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
"A graveside service was held Sept. 1 at Florida Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cocoa Beach, Florida.
