    His obituary appeared on 12 Jul 1971 in the Watertown Daily Times in Watertown, Jefferson, New York, as follows: "Milton Burhans Dead at 85. Lowville -- Milton E. Burhans, 85, formerly of Lowville, died Sunday in West Millington, N.J., following a brief illness.
    "The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the Virkler Funeral Home, the Rev. John Sharp, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery.
    "Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9.
    "He is survived by a son, Allison, West Millington, with whom he lived, and three grandchildren.
    "He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lowville and a life member of Lowville Fish and Game Club.
    "Mr. Burhans was born at Philadelphia, son of Duayne E. and Augusta Flint Burhans. For years he was superintendent of the Lowville and Beaver River Railroad and lived on West State Street.
    "He married Blanche Stilwell. She died June 9, 1967. Mr. Burhans retired in 1959 and with his wife moved to West Millington."

    "Mrs. Milton Burhans Dead at 79. Lowville--Mrs. Blanche Stilwell Burhans, 79, wife of Milton B. [sic] Burhans, formerly of Lowville, died this morning in All Souls hospital, Morristown, N.J., where she had been a patient one week. She had been in poor health for months.
    "Since 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Burhans had lived in Millington, N.J., with their son.
    "The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Virkler funeral home with Rev. Robert Stover, pastor of the Lowville Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery, Morristown, N.Y.
    "Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
    "Surviving besides her husband are a son, Allison Burhans, and three grandchildren.
    "Mrs. Burhans was born Jan. 28, 1888, in Piladephia, a daugter of Willard and Idella Carr Stilwell. She was married to Mr.Burhans on Oct. 1, 1914, in Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. Burhans lived in Lowville from 1916 until his retirement in 1959. He was office manager of the Kraft Foods company for years and then superintendent of the Lowville-Beaver River railroad.

    Her obituary appeared on 17 Sep 1896 in the Ogdensburg Advance and St. Lawrence Weekly Democrat in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Morristown, Sept. 14.--On Monday evening last Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Carr received a telegram informing them of the serious illness of their daughter, Mrs. C. W. Stilwell of Philadelphia, N. Y.; they left on Tuesday morning's train. That evening another telegram was received by J. V. Stilwell announcing the death of Mrs. C. W. Stilwell which was quite a shock to her many friends here. The remains were brought here on Thursday and were met at the train by a large number of relatives and sympathizing friends who escorted the remains to Pine Hill cemetery, where the interment took place, the Rev. S. S. Cobb officiating. She leaves her husband and one daughter to mourn her loss, also her father, mother and one brother William of Watertown who have the sympathy of the whole community in their sad
    bereavement. The floral display that accompanied the remains was the finest seen here in a long time."

    His obituary appeared on 22 Sep 1915 in the St. Lawrence Republican and Ogdensburgh Weekly Journal in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows:
    "Morristown, Sept. 20.--J. V. B. Stilwell passed away Friday morning after a long illness. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the house. Burial was in Pine Hill cemetery. In the absence of his pastor, Rev. C. E. Fay, Dr. Ferguson of Hammond officiated. Mr. Stillwell was 82 years of age. He was a Civil war veteran and at the time of his death was commander of Alfred J. Hooker Post [GAR]. Besides his wife he leaves a son, C. W. Stilwell of Philadelphia, a daughter, Mrs. DeRenzie of Braeside, Ont., and four grandchildren. His children were with him during the last weeks of his illness and cared for him. Mrs. Stilwell will make her home with the son at Philadelphia."
