Her obituary appeared on 10 Jun 1950 in the Ogdensburg Journal in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Mrs. C. Stilwell, Former Resident, Dies At Auburn. Mrs. Anna Stilwell, 86, widow of Charles W. Stilwell, and former Ogdensburg resident, died at an Auburn nursing home Thursday night (June 8, 1950) following an illness.
"Funeral services will be held at 2 tomorrow afternoon from the Philadelphia, N. Y., Congregational Church. The Rev. James H. Keeling of Deer River, retired Congregational minister and former pastor at Philadelphia, will officiate. Burial will be made in Morristown.
"Mrs. Stilwell had suffered a cerebral Hemorrhage Feb. 14 at the home of her niece, Miss Marian Jamieson of Auburn, former school teacher here. She was in an Auburn hospital six weeks before entering the nursing home.
"For the past two years Mrs. Stilwell had closed her Philadelphia home following the Fall election and visited her son-inlaw and [step] daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Burhans of Lowville, as well as Miss Jamieson.
"Mrs. Stilwell was born at Morristown July 4, 1863, a daughter of John and Helen MacNab [sic] Hay. When she was five her parents moved to a farm at Scotch Settlement. She was graduated from Potsdam Normal in 1885 and taught school for several years.
"On Feb. 3, 1898, she was married to Mr. Stilwell of Philadelphia, N. Y. They lived at his home until they sold it to Eber Stickland and moved to Evans Mills in the spring of 1919. Mr. Stilwell purchased the block and general store and the couple lived there until his death in February, 1926.
"Mrs. Stilwell stayed in Evans Mills until 1927, when she sold the property to the Lortscher brothers and returned to Philadelphia, where she bought a home on Pearl St.
"Surviving are a [step]daughter, Mrs. Milton (Blanche) Burhans, Lowville; a niece, Miss Jamieson, now teaching in Auburn; a grandson, Allison S. Burhans, Canajahorie, and two great grandchildren.
"She was a member of the Philadelphia Congregational Church, of which she was the treasurer for 20 years; one of the
oldest members of the Coterie and a former president, a trustee of the Philadelphia (now Bodman Memorial) Library and
