SOUTHINGTON - Harold Neil Goff, 89, of Southington died at 3:40 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at his home.

He was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Warren, the son of Jerry Martin and Frances Baldwin Goff.

Harold was a 1937 graduate of Harding High School and was retired from Taylor-Winfield in 1983 where he was a layout inspector and fitter welder.

He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force and served as an aircraft welder on the battlegrounds in New Guinea in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II.

Harold was a member of Southington United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 751, and he was involved in SCOPE and other senior citizens groups and especially liked to play cards. He was an avid golfer. In his younger years, he always had beagles and liked to hunt. Until recently you could see him on his tractor, brush-hogging, snow-plowing and gardening or fishing at the pond behind his home. One of his favorite things to do was play April Fool's jokes on his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, the former Violet L. Bronson, whom he married in 1942; five daughters, Linda (Bob) Reader, Judy (Roy) Jones and Jerrie (Sam) Lee, all of Southington, Marsha (Arthur) Phipps of Champion and Karlene Goff of Solvang, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria Walker of Howland.

Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry M.Goff Jr.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Pastor Barbara Silversmith will officiate. Interment will be in Southington Reformed Cemetery. Calling hours will be private.

Family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Southington American Legion Post 751, P.O. Box 307, Southington, Ohio 44470.

SOUTHINGTON ? Violet L. Goff, 97, of Southington, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

She was born June 6, 1921, in Braceville, the daughter of the late Carl and Eva Stroup Bronson.

Violet was a homemaker and excellent seamstress, mother of five daughters and grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

On Sept. 17, 1942, Violet married Harold "Skip" Goff, who she met while swimming at Eagle Creek. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage until his passing March 20, 2009.

Violet worked tirelessly as a volunteer for various Southington organizations beginning when her children entered school and up to the last few months when she enjoyed making historical scrapbooks for the Southington Community Trust to help preserve the Chalker building. She was most proud of initiating the Veterans Monument project at the Southington Pinecrest Cemetery. Her most fun project was creating the "500 Zucchini Recipes" cookbook as a fundraiser for the Garden Club.

She loved playing cards, board games and dominoes with her friends and family, and especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of SCOPE senior center and member of the SCOPE "500" Card Club in Warren, where she played cards twice a week for 35 years. She also organized the Southington Senior Citizens "500" Card Club in 1988.

Memories will be cherished by her daughters, Linda (Bob) Reader, Judy (Roy) Jones, Jerrie (Sam) Lee, all of Southington, Karlene Goff of Solvang, Calif. and Marsha (Art) Phipps of Champion; 29 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Belva Shoff of Melbourne, Fla. and Velma Bowman of Cortland; and brother, James Bronson of Kinsman.

Other than her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her brother, Myron Bronson, and sister, Evelyn Bullus.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at the Braceville United Methodist Church, 589 Park Road, Newton Falls, where Pastor Joan Purnell will officiate. Family and relatives only may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Southington Graham Cemetery, Southington, immediately following the service.

The family requests that material contributions be made to Southington American Legion, PO Box 326, Southington, OH 44470; or Southington Cemetery Association, 2327 Leiby Osborne Rd., Southington, OH 44471, in her memory.

Arrangements were by Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
