    Died:
Mrs. Andrew Purdon died at her home Sunday morning, her death being unexpected until within a few hours of the end. To very many of her friends, the announcement was a great surprise, Mrs. Purdon having but recently returned from a trip east in good spirits and apparently enjoying her usual health.
Mrs. Andrew Purdon, whose maiden name was Annie Walker, was born in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada, June 30, 1846. She came to Minnesota with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Walker, in May 1868, settling in Hudson Twp. About the same period, Mr Andrew Purdon, who had been a neighbor in Canada, settled here. They were married on November 4, 1869. They built a small home in Alexandria, which they enlarged and beautified from time to time. This has been their home until the time of Mrs. Purdon's death. Mrs. Purdon had been in failing health for several years, although able to be about her household duties. She and Mr. Purdon returned Thursday afternoon from a visit with their son, W. D. Purdon, at Cleveland, Ohio. On her return she was feeling considerably improved. She was stricken Friday, however, and gradually sank until relieved by death. During Mrs. Purdon's 40 years of life in Alexandria she surrounded herself with an ever widening circle of friends. Not a woman who loved display but rather a quiet home loving woman, her influence was felt in church work and in the society in which she moved. Her death will be mourned, not alone in her home, but at a large circle of sincere friends. She leaves besides her husband, one son, Wm. D. Purdon of Cleveland, Ohio, and a niece, Mrs. R. T. Barber, who until married a few years ago, made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Purdon, James, Daniel and William Walker, brothers and Mrs. Joseph Gilpin, a sister. The funeral occurred Tuesday from the home, Rev. A. A. Secord of the Congregational Church, of which denomination Mrs. Purdon had for years been a member, officiating.

Deceased was born in Dunbarton, Scotland, near the famous Dunbarton Castle. Moved to Glasgow when eighteen years old and married there at the age of twenty-six. In 1843 he moved to Lanark county, Ontario, and there carried on blacksmithing till the spring of 1868, when he came to Minnesota locating in Hudson, this county, where he has ever since lived excepting the last year and a half, which he has spent in town. ?b?TULLIALLAN, Perthshire ?/b?
"TULLIALLAN, parish, containing Kincardine town, on the Forth, in a detached district of Perthshire. Its length is about 2 3/4 miles; its breadth nearly 2 1/2 miles; its area 3586 acres. Real property in 1880-81, ?9120. Pop. 2199. The land contains part of a gentle broad-based hill, but mostly slopes gently from northern boundary to the Forth, and comprises a valuable tract, reclaimed and embanked from the tide. Coal and ironstone are plentiful. The chief seat is Tulliallan Castle; and the chief antiquities are the ruined old Tulliallan Castle, and the old church at Overtown. The present churches are Established, Free, and United Presbyterian, and the public schools are 2, with about 251 scholars."

An earlier structure about a half mile NW, Old Tulliallan Castle, was built by 1304, when it was ordered to be strengthened by Edward I of England, it then passed into the ownership of William Douglas first Earl of Douglas, and was granted by the Douglases to the Edmonstones, and thence to a junior branch of the Blackadders , and finally to the Bruces of Carnock. A fortified house with a keep and rib- vaulted ground floor, it was abandoned in the seventeenth century.

The Earl Lord Douglas - the Douglas estates of his father lay in some of the staunchest Presbyterian, covenanting territory in Scotland , and his tenantry were not at all amenable to King James ( James II of England , James VII of Scotland ), a Catholic. This Regiment, the Cameronian's, one of the oldest in the British Army - was also the personal Regiment of The Baron, the Earl Lord Dalhousie, Governor General of the Province of Canada in Europe. Earl Lord Dalhousie was Lt. Colonel of the Cameronian's.
