Mrs. Jean Catherine Glenn (nee Holgate) passed away on June 18, 2008 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness. She was born on July 20, 1925 in Fort William, Ontario. Jean was employed at Canada Car as a Key Punch Operator during WWII. She married Freeman Bruce Glenn and became a homemaker and mother. Jean's main interests revolved around her camp at Burchell Lake where she loved being surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed year round activities and was an avid curler in her younger years. In later years she spent many hours playing whist and bridge. Jean prided herself on being very independent and also the only 82 year old lady to validate her moose tag every year.

Jean was loved dearly by all her friends and family. She is survived by her sister Shirley Crawford of Vancouver, BC; daugher Leona (Bob) Oja; son Bruce (Tammy) Glenn; grandchildren Kim (Norm) Nadin; Shirley (Warren) Hayes; Michell (Rob) Danchuk, John (Peaches) Glenn, Sarah Oja, Tho Truong (Nikki) and Andy Truong; great grandchildren Megan and Mitchell Nadin, Keelan Hayes, Chase Danchuk, Piper Glenn, Trinh, Raiden, Lan, Khai Linh, Jude, and Myles. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She will be greatly missed by her best friend Vivian McDonald and her beloved dog Cinder-Sue. Predeceased by her parents Timothy Cyril and Viola Holgate and her husband Freeman Bruce Glenn.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 2-4 pm at Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre. Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Glenn will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:00 am at First Church United with Rev. Kent Gibbons officiating. Interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Viola Holgate, aged 78 years, resident of 205 Grey Street, died in hospital early Wednesday morning March 9, 1983. Born in Ardoch, Ontario, the former Viola McDonald, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack McDonald, she was married to Cyril Holgate in 1923. Her husband predeceased her in 1942. Surviving are two daughters, Jean, Mrs Bruce Glenn, 163 East Christina Street; Shirley, Mrs. Ken Crawford, Longley BC (enroute), two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers, Earl, Newell, and William McDonald, all of Thunder Bay, and other relatives. She was predeceased by brothers, Lorne, Russell, Hugh and Peter, sister Flossie Glover.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm in the Jenkens Funeral Home. Rev. Joan Mckintosh of First Church United will officiate and interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

John McDonald died 22 July 1922 of Diabetes, on his death certificate he was listed as a carpenter.
John was son of John McDonald and Maria Rogers of McDonald's Corners, Ontario.
On 25 Dec 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Deachman Munro at Ardoch, Ontario.
John and Kate farmed on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon Twp, at Ardoch, Ontario then by 1921 they had moved to Fort William, Ontario. According to the book "Away Back in Clarendon and Miller" by Charles A. Armstrong: John had moved from McDonald's Corners, Ontario to Ardoch to work on the log drives of the upper Mississippi River where in 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Munro who had also moved with her parents from McDonald's Corners. They lived on a farm on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon, Twp and had eight children: Lorne, Russell, Hugh John, Earl, Viola, Flossie, Nuel and William. In 1911 the family moved to Fort William, Ontario. A few years later son Lorne moved back to Ardoch, Ontario and married Olive Gertrude Watkins and raised a family there. There are still descendants of Lorne and Olive's living in the Ardoch area today.

John married Catherine Deachman "Kate" Munro in 1895. Catherine was born on 11 May 1874 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 17 Apr 1944 in Fort William, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
