    James Blake Patterson 80, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, OH after a brief illness.
    He was born August 27, 1931 in Lorain, OH to Dr. F.R.C. Patterson and Ann (nee: MacKerrow) Patterson.
    Jim graduated in 1949 from St. Mary's High School where he was senior class president. He graduated in 1953 from the University of Notre Dame and 1957 from Stritch Loyola School of Medicine.

    Jim honorably served with the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves, retiring after 25 years with the rank of Commander. He volunteered his service in Vietnam and in recent years he went to the Dominican Republic to help meet the medical needs.

    Dr. Patterson was a member of the staff of St. Joseph Hospital where he served as chief of obstetrics and president of the medical staff and also President of Mercy Regional Medial Staff.

    He was a Rotarian and served as past president of Rotary. Currently, he was president of the Senior Fellowship Club and member of the Parish Council of St. Anthony of Padua. Dr. continued to serve his community by volunteering his medical service to the Lorain Free Clinic.

    Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years of marriage, Mary Carole (nee: Little) Patterson; sons, Robert of Niceville, FL, Bartholomew of Cleveland, OH and Zachary at home; daughter, Mary (Dan) Celeste Fessler of North Olmsted, OH; grandchildren, Matthew Patterson, Hillary Patterson of Alabama and Abigail Fessler and Brady Fessler of North Olmsted, OH.

    He was preceded in death by his parents F.R.C. and Ann Patterson.

    The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 26, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 East Erie Ave, Lorain, OH, Fr. Richard E. Hudak, Pastor, officiating. Christian Burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post30 and the VFW Post 451.

    Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain, OH, St. Joseph Homeless Shelter in Lorain, OH; or St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain, OH.

    Long- Time Lorain Doctor Dies

    Dr. Francis R. Patterson, practicing physician and surgeon here for 38 years, died yesterday at 2:40 p.m. in St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness.

    He was on staff at St. Joseph and Lorain Community Hospitals and had formerly served as cheif of staff at St. Joseph Hospital.

    Dr. Patterson was born in Perth, Ontario, Cananda, attended schools there and was graduated from University of Toronto Medical School. After serving surgical residency at Columbus Hospital, New York City, he came to Lorain in 1924 as physicin for Lorain Works, United States Steel Corp.

    Dr. Patterson started private practice here in 1929, currently maintaining offices at 1142 W. 37th Street. He was a member of the Lorain County Medical Society and the Ohio State and American Medical Associations.

    A member of St. Anthony Church, Dr. Patterson was a member of its Holy Name Society and of Lorain Council 637 Knights of Columbus.

    Surviving are his wife Ann; a son, Dr. James Patterson, associated with his father in practice and a sister, Miss May Patterson, Lorain.

    Francis married Ann McKerrow. Ann was born in Toronto (York), Toronto Municipality, Ontario, Canada; died on 23 Aug 1979; was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
