    Robert Duane Kania & Laurie Susan Bernath-Kania

    Robert D. Kania, 70, and his wife, Laurie S. Bernath-Kania, 57, of Port Huron, passed away within hours of each other on Saturday, May 1, 2021, after a month-long illness.

    Bob was born June 27, 1950 in Port Huron and was a life-long resident of the Blue Water Area. Laurie was born September 21, 1963 in Clawson, Michigan. They were married on February 21, 1997 in Richmond, Michigan.

    Bob graduated in 1969 from Port Huron High School, where he excelled in wrestling. After high school, he went to work for Interstate Manufacturing, later moving on to Baker Electric, and finally working for Rochester Tire before retiring in 2019. In addition to his love of fishing, Bob was a familiar figure in Blue Water Area bowling leagues and was a diehard Red Wings and Lions fan!

    Laurie graduated in 1981 from Clawson High School. She worked for many years as a unit secretary at Port Huron Hospital before becoming a dispatcher for the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.

    Bob is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Jason) Frantz; son, Steven Kania; brother, Ken (Shari) Kania: sisters, Margaret (Dee) Woodard and Aneta (Charles) Jansen; brother-in-law, Richard Dawson; grandchildren, Chelsey (BobbyJoe) McPike, Jessica Frantz and Jason Frantz, Jr; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence E. Kania; mother, Theresa D. Bassett; stepmother, Iva A. Kania; and sister, Linda Dawson.

    Laurie is survived by her sister, Darcy (Greg) Chambers; brother, Brett Bernath; nephew, Brandon Hison; and niece, Grace Bernath. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavern and Beverly Ann Bernath.

    Cremation has taken place for both Bob and Laurie, with arrangements made through Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

    Lawrence E. Kania DEWEY, AZ.-Lawrence E. Kania, 95 of Dewey, AZ, formerly of Port Huron, Mi, died on Friday, April 27th, 2018. He was born January 31, 1923 in Courtenay, ND.

    He is survived by his wife, Constance and children Margaret (Dee), Kenneth Kania (Sheri), Ron Hobbs (Joan) Muriel Kropp (Dick) Robert Kania (Laurie), Sue Cutbirth (Dan), Aneta Jansen (Charles), Ginger Wagner (Rick) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by daughter Linda Dawson and Gary Hobbs. Lawrence honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he moved to Port Huron and worked at Prestolite for more than 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a master craftsman who could build or repair almost anything. In addition to restoring dozens of antique cars and trucks, he built the VFW Hall in Black Canyon City, AZ, proudly serving as an active member of that organization.

    Iva 'Peg' Kania, 74 BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. Iva "Peg" Kania, 74, a former longtime resident of Port Huron, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 30, 1992, in Black Canyon City, Ariz.

    Mrs. Kania was very active in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Black Canyon City, Ariz, and the Veteran's Hospital in Prescott, Ariz. She was a tireless fund-raiser for cancer aid and research. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; three daughters, Margaret Woodard, Linda Dawson and Aneta Jansen; two sons, Kenneth and Robert Kania; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dee Woodard, Charles Jansen, Gordon Moak, Charles Scott, Raymond Lewis and Clarence Byers. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 566, Black Canyon City, Ariz. 85324.
