On Sunday, October 30, 2005 Elwood Bartraw died peacefully at Eastholme, Powassan in his 91st year. son of the late Willia and Mabel (Duncan), Elwood was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Vivian (Campbell) (1912-1987). He was the living father of Lois Joron (Hector) of Callander, Bill Bartraaw (Carol), Jim Bartraw (Sharon) and Sharon (Frank Smith). He was the dear brother of Berena Eckford, North Bay, Sheila White and Emerson Bartraw of Powassan and was predeceased by his sister Isabel Warner. Elwood will be sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 t 9 pm and Thursday from 10 to 11 and the funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 am on Thursday with interment to follow in Powassan Union Cemetery. If desired donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation. Evelyn Vivian Bartraw
Funeral services were conducted for the late Evelyn Bartraaw, July 20, 1987 at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan. A favorite song of Evelyn's "Run for the Roses", was sung by her grandson, Tom Joron. Rev. Vic Brown officiated and the interment was at the Powasssan Union Cemetery.
As would be her pleasure, Evelyn's grandsons Tom and David Joron, sheldon and Scott Samuels, Danny and Trevor Bartraw carried the casket, while her granddaughters Debbie Piper, Jo Ann Rick, Lori Samuels, Christine, Penny and Melanie Bartraw preceded the casket bearing flowers.
Evelyn was born to Albert and Ruby Campbell in Nipissing Township on September 13, 1912. She was the seconc eldest in a family of eleven. she worked very hard and took on many family responsibilities over the years. In 1937 she married Elwood Bartraw and they farmed in south Himsworth for many uears where they raised four children. she and Elwood later retired in the town of Powassan.
Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her husband Elwood, her children, Lois and Hector Joron, Bill and Carol Bartraw, Jim and Sharon Bartraw, Sharon and Victor (deceasded) Samuels, her twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a dear sister to Clinton, Lloyd, Dinty, Jim, June and Joan Campbell and Blanche McLachlan, Elsie Meehan, Dorothy Adamson and Jean good.
Evelyn was a person of true devotion to her husband, her family and her friends. She had a wonderful way with people and a particular affinity to children who lived her in the same way. We must console ourselves, that we were so fortunate to have been a part of her life. she has touched so many in so many ways, words cannot express how we will miss her. May Evelyn find peace with God - that wonderful peace that she brought so many times to all of us.

Ruby Campbell
A Nipissing resident all her life, Ruby M. Campbell of Callander, died Tuesday at Stonehouse Nursing Home in Trout Creek after a lengthy illness. She was 82.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Paul Chapel Thursday at 2 pm by Rev. Robert Jackson. Interment will be at the Nipissing Cemetery.
Born Aug 6, 1892, in Hotham, Ont.m, Mrs. Camppbell was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barber.
Mrs. Campbell married Albert Campbell Dec. 21, 1910 in Powassan, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last December.
Mrs. Campbell was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Jim Eckford (Earlene) and three infants, and is survived by her husband, four sons, Clinton at home; Jimmy of Callanader; Lloyd of Sudbury, and John of Toronto, seven daughters, Mrs. Elwood Bartraw (Evelyn) of Powassan, Mrs. Percy McLachlan (Blancke) of Sudbury, Mrs. Bernie Meehan (Elsie) of North Bay, Mrs. Jack Adamson (Dorothy) of Toronto, Mrs. George Good (Jean) of Guelph, June of Toronto and Joan, at home; six brothers, William of Powassan, Wellesly and Harry of Callander, Donald of Hotham, Gordon of North Bay, and Laughlan of Matheson; and three sisters, Mrs. Ken Purdon (Jessie), Mrs. Eric Briggs (Alice) both of Powassan and Mrs. Claude Mills (Maudie) of Callander.

John Barber
The death of John Barber occurred at his home in Calander on Thursday, July 25th, after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Barber was born near Perth, Ontario, May 6, 1858, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barber. He came to Northern Ontario in 1878. At first he engaged in lumbering and later took up a homestead six miles from Nipissing village. He was married 54 years ago to the former Julia Stillar of Smiths Falls.
Besides his wife, Mr. Barber is survived by six sons, William of Powassan, Wellesley of Timmins, Donald of Nipissing, Laughlin of Golden City, Gordon of North Bay and Harry of Callander; also five daughters, Mrs. A. Campbell, Nipissing; Mrs. James Eckford, Timmins; Mres. K. Purdon, Powassan; Mres. Claude Mills and Mrs. Eric Briggs, Callander; a sister, Mrs. Wm. Calder of Callander, and a brother, Thos. Barber of Nipissing.
All were home for the funeral, which was held on Saturday afternoon from his late residence in Callander to Nipissing Junction cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Mustard of Toronto was the officiating minister. The pall-bearers were a brother-in-law, Ab. Campbell, K. Purdon, Jas. Eckford, Claude Mills and Eric Briggs.

John married Julia Margaret Stillar on 11 Feb 1892 in Hotham, Gurd Twp, Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada. Julia (daughter of George Stillar and Julia Ann Manion) was born on 12 May 1876 in Maberly, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 8 Feb 1961 in Trout Creek, Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Nipissing Junction Union Cemetery, Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada. Funeral services were conducted here from the Paul Funeral Home on Feb. 11th, for Mrs. John BArber who passed away in the Stonehouse Nursing Home at Trout Creek following a three-year illness. She was 84.
The Rev. J.L. Vinet officiated and the pallbearers were six grandchildren, namely: Clinton Campbell, Orval Barber, Bruce Barber, Wilmer Barber, Barkley Barber and Ronald Briggs.
Mrs. Barber, the former Julie Margaret Stillar, was born at Mayberley (Mayberly) in 1876, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Stillar, who came to Ni0issing village when she was seven years of age. In 1892 she married John Barber, and he died in 1946. Three children also predeceased her in infancy.
Mrs. Barber was a member of Knox United Church, Nipissing Village.
Surviving are six sons, William, Powassan; Wellesley, Callander; Donald, Nipissing; Gordon, North Bay; Laughlin, Matheson, and Harry, Callander; five daughters, (Ruby) Mrs. A. Campbell, RR3, Powassan; (Earlene) Mrs. J. Eckford, Newton Falls, Ohio; (Jessie) Mrs. K. Purdon; (Maudie) Mrs. C. Mills, Callander; and (Alice) Mrs. E. Briggs, Powassan; 49 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Isaac Stillar, Powassan.
Those from a distance attending funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. James Eckford and daughter, Mrs. Robert James, Newton Falls, Ohio; Mr. Laughlin Barber, Matheson; Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Barber; and Merle Barber, Ottawa; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Percy McLachlan, Sudbury; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Campbell and Miss June Campbell, Toronto.
