    CARROLL Mrs. Irene Edna Porter Carroll (Shorrock) known by her family as Edna, passed away suddenly at the'Rimbey Hospital on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at the age of 82 years.

    Edna was born at Gilby, Alberta on May 26, 1924, the first child of James William Shorrock MM and Norah (Porter) Shorrock.

    Edna attended Medicine Valley School then boarded in Eckville in order to finish her education. In September, 1941, Edna married Charles Carroll, a neighbor boy. Shortly afterwards Charles joined the army and was stationed in Esquimalt, B.C. Edna joined him for a short time in Victoria until he was transferred to Halifax, N.S. Following the war, they settled in the Gilby area where they raised 6 children and farmed for the next 60 years.

    Edna was an active member of the community and belonged to the Gilby Ladies Club, the Benjamin Ladies Club, the Gimlet WMS and the Rimbey LWML. She was an avid reader and loved meeting people and hearing their stories. She very much enjoyed writing, listening to music and most of all dancing. She treasured the company of her family and friends and paid special attention to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    After Charles and Edna quit farming, they retired to Rimbey. Edna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charles in August, 2006, her half sister Alice Coppithorne of Maine, a son Freeman in 1971, grandson Jimmy Rushton in 1987, and a son - in-law Ron Aldridge. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her five daughters Beverly Aldridge of Williams Lake, B.C., Heather (Paddy) Gunderson of Williams Lake, Penny Jane (Lyal) Johnston of Rimbey, Nita Louise (Dwayne) Lawson of Calgary, Kathleen (Stewart) Grant of Red Deer and brothers Alan Shorrock and Cliff Shorrock. Edna also leaves to mourn 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

    Funeral services will be held from the Zion Lutheran Church in Rimbey, AB on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Al Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the Bradshaw Cemetery at Leedale, Alberta. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or Mustard Seed Ministries.
