    Fort Benton Pioneer Dead; Long Illness. Moved to Montana in Early Riverboat Days; Nine Children Survive

    Fort Benton, Jan. 11--William Rowe, 84 years old, died at his home in this city early Sunday morning after a lingering illness extending over the past several years. He was one of the oldest residents of the county in point of residence, arriving here in the early '60s on the same boat that brought T. C. Power. For many years he was a stage driver from this place to Helena and had a contract for carrying the mail. He has been identified with a number of business ventures in this part of Montana and was formerly the owner of the old Overland hotel and later the Grand Union hotel. He served as an early day sheriff of Chouteau county.
    Nine children beside the widow survive: Mrs. George E. Penrock, Wilbur; Mrs. W. H. Jenkinson, three sons, Leslie, George and Edward of Fort Benton; Mrs. Minnie Hendrickson of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. J. F. Lester of Wenatchee, Wash.; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Davis, living here.
    The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 under the direction of the Masonic order.
